7) THE BLACK PANTHER (but not T’Challa)
Boasting a single appearance in Centaur Comics’ ‘Stars & Stripes’ circa 1941, very little of note was revealed about T’Challa’s predecessor, not even a real name. At the time of his appearance, though, he had enough of a reputation to strike fear into the villainous Rogats, allowing him to foil the bad guy’s plan to steal a secret formula. (If you’ve read much in the way of Golden Age comics, you might recognize this plot as a Mad Libs that could describe half a dozen one-shot masked mystery men…)
