Ain’t It Cool News is reporting that the comedy duo of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have been cast as Thomson and Thompson, the detective duo in Steven Spielberg/Peter Jackson’s 3D Tintin movie.  The site’s announcement also included Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock, with more confirmed actors expected to be announced soon. I would normally say, “File this under rumor,” but considering the huge number of insiders AICN has in the industry, this is more than likely information that is spot on.  Any H’wood Insiders wanna be the Major Spoilers inside guy?  You know who to contact… The movie is…

Over at his blog, screenwriter John August gives a breakdown as to what happened to his Shazam! movie and how the execs at Warner Bros. cancelled the movie. When we turned the new draft in to the studio, we got a reaction that made me wonder if anyone at Warners had actually read previous drafts or the associated notes. The studio felt the movie played too young. They wanted edgier. They wanted Billy to be older. They wanted Black Adam to appear much earlier. His first draft, turned in before the writer’s strike, was more of a comedy than the…

Last year’s writer’s strike played havoc on our television viewing.  Heroes got chopped at the knees and probably ruined the series for all time.  Nearly everything but reality shows took a hit.  The movie industry was not excluded from this really fun time, as studios scrambled to get scripts finished before the strike began.  Those films are scheduled to arrive in theaters this year, and io9.com has a fascinating look at upcoming movies, and what movie goers will likely encounter when these flicks hit theaters. On X-Men Origins: Wolverine What’s the damage? We know the script was bad enough that…

Jimmy Hayward, the director behind the animated Horton Hears a Who feature, has been selected to direct DC Comics’ Jonah Hex movie. This follows the exit of scriptwriters Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who were previously scheduled to co-direct the film. The character of Hex, known for having the right side of his face disfigured and wearing a Confederate army uniform, was a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter whose adventures always ended in blood. One incarnation of his comic book series saw the Western genre combined with supernatural elements, and it’s this aspect that was featured in Neveldine and…

Here’s the latest image from the upcoming 20th Century Fox movie, Wolverine.  This one features Hugh Jackman getting out of the tub and being startled by the camera and crew standing around watching. Wolverine is scheduled to kick off the summer movie season, and will hopefully do well providing the legion of comic book fans don’t boycott because of that Watchmen lawsuit. There is a much larger, wallpaper worthy image over at Ain’t It Cool News

This movie just keeps getting weirder and weirder.  The Guinea Pig Force (hence G-Force) is tasked with stopping a crazed man who is about to unleash an mechanized army.  Oddly, those mechanized robots transform from everyday devices.  With Bruckheimer behind this coming fiasco, it doesn’t surprise me that this is the result. Don’t believe me?  Check the trailer for yourself (before legal takes it down).

Warner Bros. isn’t taking the early ruling by Judge Gary Feess lightly, when it came out yesterday with a comment about the court case. “We respectfully but vigorously disagree with the court’s ruling and are exploring all of our appellate options,” the studio said. “We continue to believe that Fox’s claims have no merit and that we will ultimately prevail, whether at trial or in the Court of Appeals.” While Warner Bros. is coming out strong on this one – and why wouldn’t they, this movie is shaping up to the be big blockbuster of the year – the studio…

Frank Miller’s take on Will Eisner’s The Spirit was much hyped and ballyhooed across all forms of media leading up to the big Christmas day release.  With that much publicity, it must have done gangbusters at the box office, right? Turns out, The Spirit has only made $10.3 million since its debut, placing it firmly at the number nine spot for the week.  Yikes!  Movies like Yes Man and The Day the Earth Stood Still, which have been out for a couple of weeks, still did better over the weekend than Frank Miller’s flick. I didn’t see it, did you?  …

This might be one more reason not to see the 20th Century Fox Wolvering movie when it arrives.  In a ruling by Los Angeles federal judge Gary Allen, his honor saw fit to release an intial ruling that says Fox owns a copyright interest in Warner Bros. Watchmen movie. “Fox owns a copyright interest consisting of, at the very least, the right to distribute the ‘Watchmen’ motion picture,” the ruling said. Yikes.  Considering that Fox’s original motion was set up to keep Watchmen from being released on March 6, this puts a big damper on the film. While I agree…
