Previously in Tiger Division: White Fox and the South Korean National Intelligence Serves assembled a team of super-powered individuals. This includes Taegukgi, Lady Bright, Mr. Enigma, the General, Gun-R II, and Luna Snow. Together, they are the Tiger Division. Taegukgi has had a vision of his ajumma, distracting him from figuring out who stole the Psylot Gem. As his team tracks down the gem, they find themselves in an ambush in a warehouse!
ON THE DEFENSIVE
Tiger Division #2 starts with the team getting ambushed by many robots. Since they are androids, the team can go all out. However, the General takes a grievous wound, and the battle challenges the structural integrity of the building. As the group makes an escape, they head back to their Headquarters to help the General while everyone else tries to figure out who set a trap for them. Gun-R II realizes that the people behind this are the MTO Corporation with a project called Kal Duo. This prompts a flashback about when Taegukgi was a kid and a criminal with a friend, Min-Jae.
Realizing that his past may be catching up with him, Tae-Won flies to the MTO corporation and learns that the person behind the attacks was his childhood friend.
THE SUPERHERO TROPE
In the Major Spoilers Podcast this week, the crew mentioned briefly how Spider-Man and Superman are tropes now. When I think of the character Taegukgi, I think of a Korean Superman. Tiger Division #2 provides an engaging deviant from the typical Superman trope and some much-needed characterization. This miniseries promises to develop Tae-Won into his own character. With enough time, I hope to see all these characters get this treatment.
The art is a standard affair for Marvel Comics right now. The change of style for the flashbacks was incredibly well-done. The ambiance and feel brought you into the past and a teenage Tae-Won. Splendid work by the creative team here.
BOTTOM LINE: A LOT OF PROMISE
Tiger Division #2 is a thrilling continuation of the promises in the first issue. On top of that, I appreciate looking at new cultures and exploring the stories you can tell with them. I hope to see more Korean culture shine through in future issues. 4 out of 5 stars for Tiger Division #2.
