Warner Bros. isn’t taking the early ruling by Judge Gary Feess lightly, when it came out yesterday with a comment about the court case. “We respectfully but vigorously disagree with the court’s ruling and are exploring all of our appellate options,” the studio said. “We continue to believe that Fox’s claims have no merit and that we will ultimately prevail, whether at trial or in the Court of Appeals.” While Warner Bros. is coming out strong on this one – and why wouldn’t they, this movie is shaping up to the be big blockbuster of the year – the studio…
Frank Miller’s take on Will Eisner’s The Spirit was much hyped and ballyhooed across all forms of media leading up to the big Christmas day release. With that much publicity, it must have done gangbusters at the box office, right? Turns out, The Spirit has only made $10.3 million since its debut, placing it firmly at the number nine spot for the week. Yikes! Movies like Yes Man and The Day the Earth Stood Still, which have been out for a couple of weeks, still did better over the weekend than Frank Miller’s flick. I didn’t see it, did you?  …
This might be one more reason not to see the 20th Century Fox Wolvering movie when it arrives. In a ruling by Los Angeles federal judge Gary Allen, his honor saw fit to release an intial ruling that says Fox owns a copyright interest in Warner Bros. Watchmen movie. “Fox owns a copyright interest consisting of, at the very least, the right to distribute the ‘Watchmen’ motion picture,†the ruling said. Yikes. Considering that Fox’s original motion was set up to keep Watchmen from being released on March 6, this puts a big damper on the film. While I agree…
We’ve some really amazing fan films, but this one goes way over the top. The people at WormyT have spent a great deal of time culling clips from some great action films (Hugh Jackman from X-Men for example), and cat-ized each clip with a bunch of rotoscoping and CGI enhancements. The result? I pretty believable Thundercats trailer that will probably get the Interweb Nets all a twitter over the next couple of weeks over the possibility of a real Thundercats movie.
Oh man, when we heard months ago that Jerry Bruckheimer was producing a G-Force movie, we assumed it was going to be a balls to the wall, explosion laden, eye-gasm featuring Mark, the Princess, Keyop, and the rest of the G-Force gang. Instead, we get this… Guinea pigs? Granted, they are specially trained guinea pigs who work for the government, but come on! And to rub it in our faces, these are CGI guinea pigs and not the real deal. Boo, Mr. Bruckheimer. Boo to you! via USA Today
Remember that trailer for Push we ran some time ago? Now there’s a poster to go with it. Yes, it does look like a total rip off of Jumper and Heroes, but I’m betting a large number of you still see it. I know I will.
Arcana Studios has announced a deal with Legacy Filmworks where five of the comic company’s titles will be made into films. First out of the gate will be Paradox, starring Kevin Sorbo, and directed by Brenton Spencer. Sorbo plays a homicide cop on a parallel Earth ruled by magic who investigates a series of murders committed by a previously unseen means: the power of science. Christos Gage and Ruth Fletcher Gage wrote the screenplay based on Arcana’s three-issue limited series written by Christos Gage, who has worked for Marvel and DC Comics. Other titles on the film list include Chopper…
“Will Eisner was my mentor, and The Spirit was so awesome a property that I at first thought I was not worthy to do it. And then I couldn’t think of anybody else who was, so I decided that I was the right man for the job.†– Frank Miller on The Spirit movie via SciFi
I haven’t read too many glowing reviews of Frank Miller’s The Spirit, so I’m a little concerned that Miller’s next project might be a film adaptation of Buck Rogers. Miller will write and direct his own big-screen take on the comic serial; while the creator has only begun to sketch ideas, it’s expected to be a darker take, with many of Miller’s signature visual elements and themes, such as corruption and redemption. A darker take, huh? Doesn’t sound like a real stretch for the guy who might make Buck Rogers a priority over Sin City 2. Nu Image/Millennium curretnly owns…
Variety is reporting this morning that Stephen Chow will not direct the Seth Rogen Green Hornet film, but will still play the part of Kato. The reason cited for stepping down is creative differences, which is a shame because Kung Fu Hussle and Shaolin Soccer are two great films that redefine what martial arts movies are about, or could be about. Had Chow stayed with the picture, I’ve no doubt there would have been some great things to be seen. via Variety
NOOOOOOOOO! … … … NOOOOOOOOO! … … … Apparently Keanu Reeves wants to play Spike Spielgel in a live action adaptation of the best anime series of all time – Cowboy Bebop. … … NOOOOOOOO!
Criminal investigation meets Greek mythology when current primetime television stars David McCallum and Marg Helgenberger assume the voices of Zeus and Hera, respectively, for “Wonder Woman,†the next entry in the popular series of DC Universe animated original PG-13 films. McCallum, known to current TV audiences as Dr. Donald “Ducky†Mallard in the hit CBS series “Navy NCIS (Navel Criminal Investigative Service),†adds “Wonder Woman†to an animation resume that already includes the DC Universe movie “Batman Gotham Knight†and TV series “Ben 10†and “The Replacements.†Animation is but a side gig for McCallum, though, the actor having achieved…
Studio 407 will release its Hybrid series in trade paperback form on February 25, 2009. If you didn’t get a chance to read the individual issues, now might be a good time to read the collection before the movie adaptation hits theaters. “This was a real opportunity to take an old fashioned genre, the classic monster story, and bring it into the 21st century. says Hybrid writer Peter Kwong. “The ‘hybrid” is unlike any creature that you’ve ever seen; yet, like all classical monsters, it’s very much rooted in contemporary fears and anxieties. That always makes it more interesting as…
