This series is looking really disappointing, as I said in the last preview. As with the ‘sequels’ to 1602, all of the plot threads Gaiman established or left dangling are either ignored or handled the wrong way.

      * Druig goes from a subtle villain, manipulating the scenes and using his own country in a similar manner to Doctor Doom…to the ‘generic bad guy’ with a silly helmet who wants to take over the world.

      * Makkari goes from the interesting helmet designed for him by JR jr. – one that made sense for a speedster – to his ridiculous-looking Kirby variant.

      * The issue of whether Sersi would become a heroine once more, which should have been treated with subtlety and allowed to develop, is rushed so that she’s suddenly in an even skimpier outfit than before and dealing with Iron Man again.

      * This issue seems to want to put Sersi back with Makkari…despite having been established that they’re both immortal and would thus get bored with each other again.

      * Ikaris is back in his old, less impressive costume.

      * Ikaris is hunting down the missing Eternals with Thena, rather than Makkari; the last issue of the mini had the Makkari-Ikaris teamup.

      * The Deviants are now largely ignored in favour of the Horde (though this might be foreshadowing towards the Eternals’ involvement in Secret Invasion).

The art, though, is brilliant. That alone may save this.
