Alex Ross is coming back to Marvel, and guess what project he is working on?
According to Ross, this project has been in the works for two years.
In an interview with Newsarama, Alex said he would be the designer, cover artist, and co-storyteller with Jim Krueger.
It could mean many things. It implies as much a return of Captain America, sure, as it also implies my return to Marvel – and maybe some other things. But I can tell you that my ego wasn’t fueling the design of that image…
Of course he is being very cryptic in his interview without giving anything major away. It does look like this is an in continuity story, so we’ll have to wait and see what that means. To me the image evokes a phoenix rising from the ashes, and it looks like Bucky is by his side. I wonder if Marvel will go down the Dark Phoenix Captain America route, after all it worked before…

Hmm. Looks like Namor on his right. The flame would lead me to believe the original Human Torch nearby. I’d read an Invaders painted series by Alex Ross. I doubt they’d be bringing CA back, they’d have to wait to the movie comes out:)
I knew Iron Man entrusting Namor with the burial was a big mistake. Ever since they put him to rest I’ve suspected that Atlantean technology would have a hand in his return.
I agree , I think it is tottally a invaders story , not so much a a dark phoenix cap but possibly a return to old nazi beating up stories invoving cap and the invaders ???
I find myself wondering why I should care. This looks exactly like Ross’s JSA covers, and I just don’t see the appeal.
i really dont like rosses art too he makes people look older and puggey
I hope it’s not just a Invaders story, because if so then it’s awfully cruel of them to release this cover without an explanation.
Ross say this is definitely Steve Rogers, so I guess the only out would be a historical story.
I guess we all knew Cap would be returning, but they can’t wait even six months to let us get used to him being gone? To be honest, I’ve never been a huge Cap fan. I liked him in the Avengers but could not really get into his solo stuff, so I’d rather leave him gone for a while.
Something tells me that Brubaker is none too thrilled about this….

I suspect the same, though I think that they wouldn’t have done this if it weren’t Alex Ross… Apparently, his superstar status gives him carte blanche across the board. The good part, though, is that I can avoid an Invaders limited series much more easily than I can avoid his strange pinup covers on JSA. I’m also getting a bit tired of the “posing in front of a black curtain” bit…
