The great part about the world is that it was around before any of us, and it will probably continue long after we’re all gone. (That’s also the most terrifying part, but it’s too early for me to spark existential crises in all the Spoilerites.) As such, you can always discover something wonderful that happened long before you were aware of it, even before you were born. I vividly recall encountering a cassette tape of The Doors late in high school, and how transformative that band was for my appreciation of music and my world-view. The same goes for discovering old movies and reruns on Channel 41 on a weekend afternoon, and especially for 1986, when MTV took an old show about four guys tryin’ to make it as a band and started running it for ironic kicks, leading to today’s retroactive query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) would have to say that my answer is a street fight between the combined works of ‘The Monkees’ and the 79 episodes of the original ‘Star Trek’, especially the ones with omnipotent jerk enemies who learn a valuable lesson, asking: What’s your FAVORITE piece of pop culture from before you were born?

Dark Shadows because it was a phenomenon of daily fun. I heard stories of people rushing home to watch as this was long before VHS recording. You missed it… you missed it!
The G1 Transformers cartoon, i used to watch reruns of it when I could get up early enough.
Abbot and Costello’s “Who’s on First”. I don’t remember when I first heard it, but it cracks me up every time I hear it.
I second that!
Probably Star Wars: A New Hope.
Bakes 7,
It was like all my fav scifi in a rougher form, but also really polished too
Mr Peterson this makes me feel so old. But my answer is Charlie Chaplin/Buster Keaton/Marx Brothers movies. I did not realize how good they were until I got older and gave them a chance. I was amazed once I started to appreciate what I was seeing. Never too old to learn something new.
