I really like the build a bridge idea that this new collection offers. It’s a way to guarantee the entire figure run sells out, and increases the ire of those who are looking for the short pack figure to complete the set.

Universal pictures has picked up the rights to develop a movie based on Mattel’s action figure, Major Matt Mason. While another toy movie may not sound like a big deal, with Tom Hanks starring in the movie, it will probably get a lot more attention than the Stretch Armstrong movie. Diamond Select Toys previewed the new Star Trek action figure line back in February, and today the company announced The Original Series Series 5 will arrive in August. The fifth series picks up where the Art Asylum line left off and gives fans updated versions of characters based on classic Star Trek episodes. I picked up the second wave of DC’s New Gods action figures based on the designs of Jack Kirby, and as the Superman figure sat upon my shelf staring down at me with much contempt, it suddenly struck me how much Kal-El looks like Adam Carolla. I’ve picked up a few of the Mighty Mugg figures over the last year or so, and they are pretty neat. Hasbro has unveiled the latest X-Men Mighty Muggs featuring Wolverine, Sabertooth, Pheonix, and Cyclops. Of the four, I’ll probably pick up the Cyclops figure, as Jean Grey is just a little weird looking. via Hasbro
Oh, Baby! Now this is the stuff I want to see when I go to a comic book convention – all the new action figures coming down the pipe. Mattel always has a good booth showcasing its stuff, and if these images are an indication of what is to come, my wallet is going to by mighty thin by year’s end.
If there was one panel I would wait in line for at the New York Comic Con it would be this one.
The good news is, those 6-inch figures are being done by the same group that is doing the DC Universe Classic line, which means high quality sculpts with multiple points of articulation. Bonus ghost figures are nice, but I really want the first wave to be a build-a-figure Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. Hasbro has announced the 3.75-inch Wolverine Animated figures to go along with the current cartoon series.
