Did You Hear? is a weekly examination of headlines in the entertainment industry and a take on what they could mean for the future of the industry and (often), the little geeky bubble that we occupy!
The CW is Back!
We talked about this at the beginning of the past week’s Major Spoilers Podcast: per EW The CW and its Arrowverse will be returning to the airwaves in early 2021 with the semblance of a normal release schedule compared to how we saw episodes play out this year during the pandemic.
Black Lightning, The Flash, Batwoman, Superman & Lois and other non-superhero fare will all be back on regular nights following the end of the year holiday season. Most shows are returning to their usual night with a few exceptions – like Charmed – being shuffled around.
CEO & chairman Mark Pedowitz had this to say to reporters:
Of course, for original scripted series we do not have an exact return of production yet. We are going with this strategy to give producers and studios ample time to get back up and running in the best and safest way possible. Strategy and protocols are still being developed. What other broadcasters do is up to them. For The CW, this is right for us.
Free Guy & Death on the Nile Release Dates Pushed Back
Deadline broke the news on Thursday that 20th Century Studios has pushed back the release dates for both the Ryan Reynold’s-helmed Free Guy and Gal Gadot’s vehicle, Death on the NIle until 2021.
Given the trend of this year of movies being moved all over the place I don’t find this completely shocking, but with both movies having been slated for December 2020 releases it seems as though there is very little chance of anything major hitting cinemas around the world before next year.
Kim’s Convenience Star Soars in The Mandalorian Season 2
If you are a regular listener to the Major Spoilers Podcast you know of the shared love Stephen Schliecher and I share for the CBC sitcom, Kim’s Convenience. If you have been smart enough to follow our advice and watched the show then you know the series’ star Paul Sun-Hyung Lee who plays the role of Appa is a legendary Star Wars fan. He’s even a member of his local 501st legion!
Friday morning both Stephen and I woke up to Lee’s costar Simu Liu (our Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Shang-Chi), tweeting about Lee’s appearance in Chapter 10 (season 2, episode 2) of Disney+’s The Mandalorian.
Simu Liu (刘思慕) on Twitter: “SNEAK ATTACK! CAN YOU BELIEVE?! pic.twitter.com/s3gSTp7Jlf / Twitter”

I don’t necessarily believe that an actor has to be the fan of something in order to give a great performance, but I do find it incredible when artists are afforded the opportunity to create the type of content they are most passionate about!
