IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

    ARCHIE 1941 #2
    Writers: Mark Waid, Brian Augustyn
Artists: Peter Krause, Kelly Fitzpatrick, Jack Morelli
    Publisher: Archie Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: IT’S WAR! As the United States makes its entrance into WWII, the teens and parents in Riverdale are faced with some difficult situations as they reflect on how this will dramatically change their lives as they know it.

STEPHEN: The first issue hit a perfect mix of what you know about history, and the characters, and throws them together to create a tale of ennui that hopefully will end with Archie finding purpose in life.

Lumberjanes: The Infernal Compass OGNLUMBERJANES: THE INFERNAL COMPASS OGN
    Writer: Lilah Sturges
    Artist: polternick
    Publisher: BOOM! Studios
    Cover Price: $14.99
    SOLICITATION:

    • Eisner Award-nominated writer Lilah Sturges (Fables, Thor: Season One) teams with artist polterink (Enough Space for Everyone Else) for the first Lumberjanes graphic novel in a story about finding your way and navigating life, love, and a literal forest.
    • When the ‘Janes start to become separated during an orienteering outing thanks to a mysterious compass, Molly becomes more and more insecure about the effect of her relationship with Mal on the other girls.
    • Meanwhile, a lonely woman explorer is trying to steal the compass, with the help of some weirdly polite automaton butlers.

STEPHEN: Oh boy, if you love the Lumberjanes, here is an original graphic novel that gives you a huge story in one shot. I may be a bit biased because I love Lilah Sturges’s writing, but this is definitely a good read worth your time if you are a Lumberjanes fan!

    Lumberjanes #55LUMBERJANES #55
Writer: Shannon Waters and Kat Leyh
    Artist: Dozerdraws
    Publisher: Boom Entertainment, Inc.
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Ripley is missing, and the Roanokes are hot on her trail, except that the place that they’re headed…isn’t really a place?

INGRID: I love Lumberjanes. It is a super-fun book that also happens to be very smart. They’re dealing with Greek mythology again, as Ripley has been kidnapped by Tromatikos, a sort of energy vampire. This story also involves the magical cats, so it has SO MUCH CUTE! Anyway, I know what I’ll be reading first this week.

REAL SCIENCE ADVENTURES: THE NICODEMUS JOB #4
    Writer: Brian Clevinger
    Artist: Meredith McClaren
    Publisher: IDW Publishing
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Our heroes snuck a cart, a donkey, and five thieves into the Imperial Library of Constantinople. And, what’s more, they’ve almost got everything they came to steal. There’s just one problem: how do they get out again without also getting caught by the small army of scholars inside and the much larger army of, well, the Imperial Army patrolling outside? It’ll be the biggest heist of the 11th century… if they can pull it off. ? An action-packed adventure for the ages!

INGRID: Who doesn’t love an amazing heist story? Our heroes got into the Imperial Library – but can they get back out again? Twists and turns abound in this truly delightful tale.

STEPHEN: I’ve been a fan of the Atomic Robo Universe since day one, so there is no way I’m gonna let this one slip past me this week. Great story, good art – totally worth a read.

STAR WARS TALES FROM VADERS CASTLE #3
    Writer: Caven Scott
    Artists: Derek Charm, Corin Howell
    Publisher: IDW Publishing
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: ales from Vader’s Castle puts a spooky spin on your favorite characters from a galaxy far, far away…

This exciting weekly series explores the hidden corners of the Star Wars universe and features Rebels stars Hera, Kanan, and Chopper; Obi-Wan Kenobi and Count Dooku; Han Solo and Chewbacca; the Ewoks; and of course, Darth Vader—all under the shadow of Vader’s Castle!

STEPHEN: Three weeks in, and I’m still loving this series. The right comic at the right time, I have a feeling this book will go down as one of those anthology stories kids will be reading for years.

ROBOT OVERLORD: Today is the day! Today you get to discover that one comic that you love! Enjoy your quest!
