7) THE FLAG
Born with a birthmark of the American Flag, Jim Courtney was visited on the eve of his 21st birthday by the spirits of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, and gifted with super-powers. Though he made only a handful of appearances in the Golden Age, The Flag’s adventures are once again proof that the weird, crude art of the 1940s makes for some of the most exciting stories of all. (Flag Days are celebrated world-wide to commemorate the adoption of current national flags; in the United States, it is observed on June 14th each year.)
