STORMING PARADISE #1
Written by Chuck Dixon
Art and cover by Butch Guice
It’s 1945, and Europe lies in ruins, the Nazi war machine defeated. As the United States looks east to the last remaining Axis power and the final push in a long war, a miscalculation in the Manhattan Project results in annihilation of the team of scientists developing the American atomic bomb. America’s only remaining option is Operation Olympus — the invasion of Japan! But the bloody, island-hopping campaign that brings American forces to Japan’s doorstep won’t prepare the G.I.s for the horror they will face as women, children and the few surviving Japanese soldiers begin the grim preparation for repulsion.
This brutal, revisionist look at the second World War could only be handled by master storytellers Chuck Dixon (ROBIN, TEAM ZERO) and Butch Guice (ACTION COMICS, Daredevil). Every angle of this conflict will be touched upon, from the infantry storming the beaches to the Army Air Corps bombing the home islands of the Empire of the Rising Sun to the desperate struggle of the Japanese to save their culture from annihilation, as the true meaning of “war is hell†is explored in full.

Jonathan A. is a boozed-up, coked-out, sexually confused, hopelessly romantic and, of course, entirely fictional novelist who bears only a coincidental resemblance to real-life writer Jonathan Ames, critically acclaimed author of Wake Up, Sir!, The Extra Man and What’s Not to Love?
For the fictional Jonathan, writing and drinking come easy. The hard parts of life are love and hope. From a touching relationship between Jonathan and his aging great aunt, to an inebriated evening with an amorous, octogenarian dwarf, to the devastating aftermath of 9/11, Ames’s first original graphic novel, with gritty, poignant art by Dean Haspiel (THE QUITTER), tells a story at once hilarious, excruciating, bizarre and universal, about how our lives fall to pieces and the enduring human struggle to put things back together again.

Robin and SPOILER? Ugh. No character stays dead.
The Secret Origin arc on GL is SIX issues long? Hopefully it picks up the pace.
Shame about Catwoman – good book, albeit with pretty poor sales.
And the Atom is Cancelled!
So is Catwoman? How’d that happen?
Sales have been pretty bad for awhile, and it doesn’t seem like Salvation Run did much to change that (largely due to the disappointing sales of that mini as well)…my guess is they’ll either feature Catwoman as a supporting character in several books (Batman, Birds of Prey, Batman and the Outsiders, etc.) or revamp her somehow and relaunch the title at some point.
I think the title fell apart when she had the kid, and that whole One Year Later fallout. It’s sad to see the title go, but it really hasn’t had any really stellar stories lately.
for batman do you think the character we thought we would never see again is azarel — john paul valley aka azbats? or is it just spoiler?
Kara Zor-El, I despise you from the bottom of my heart, and will continue to do until either the cy of my death or the day of yours at the hands of a story I write.
19.99 FOR MILLENNIUM!! 24.99 FOR INVASION!! I know I can get any of those issues(excluding the McFarlane issue which isn’t all that great of art! anyhoo) in some cheap bin. Sorry neither of these should be those prices. They should cost half of what they are charging.
I am surprised they are still printing LSH 31st and The Batman Strikes considering both series are cancelled but I guess if they kept Justice League Unlimited running after it’s series finale I guess it will keep going for a little while longer.
Shame about Atom and Catwoman I know they had their fans but what is surprising as Salieri said is how the heck does Supergirl keep going?! Even Superman fans who can find something worthwhile in Superman 3 cannot find anything worthwhile in that stinkbomb of a title!
Why does there need to be a Superman vs Darkseid statue? Where was this scene ever in comics? Sorry I feel there are much better Superman vs Darkseid moments ie-Superman Animated had some great ones.
Now to the plus! I don’t know who is the mad genius behind them but I love the DC Direct toys! The JM/Giffen League!! AWESOME!! It’s about time Ice and G’nort got their due! The Manhunter is also very cool to look at.
It’s all a bit overwhelming really, Final Crisis has me aching!
