Here’s a little behind the scenes secret about Major Spoilers:  The writers are also readers of the site, and sometimes even we get surprised by the same wonderful stuff as you, The Faithful Spoilerites.  That’s why I’m so psyched to read of the plans for a revival of Tom Strong and his family (from circa-2000 America’s Best Comics) in the pages of the upcoming Terrifics series.  Not only does it seem like a perfect match of tone, it’s well past time that the ABC books were acknowledged as having existed.  Tom’s adventures with wife Dhalua, daughter Tesla and his manservants King Solomon and Pneuman were fascinating, fresh and just weird enough to be perfect, leading us to today’s steam-powered query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) is also psyched to hear of Milestone returning on their own Earth, another decision that should have come earlier, asking: What revival of dormant past characters would make YOU the happiest?

About Author

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

  1. The Phantom getting back his bi-weekly or even monthly book here. I know it won’t happen, people are not buying anything other than trades anymore but one can dream.

  2. Daniel Langsdale on

All sorts of dormant characters coming back COULD excite me, but really only if it’s done well. The Star Wars prequels taught me that beware of what you wish for, you might just get it.

So, all else being equal, I’d like to see a revival of the Strikeforce Morituri, updated with modern hard SF sensibilities. Get a Warren Ellis or a Brian K. Vaughan or an Abnett & Lanning on it, and I’d be there before I’d time to affix the bells.
