In which Holmes defends himself For months we’ve been following the adventures of Sherlock Holmes.  A locked room mystery, with Holmes as the primary suspect, brought readers into the series, but it is the answer that caused us all to stick around.  The final issue arrives this week, and it’s wrapped up in a neat package as only Sherlock Holmes could deliver.

The spaghetti western is solid cinematic genre that carries with it a particular set of defining elements. Named spaghetti westerns because they where shot primarily in the southern region of Spain, they had a many defining elements, not the least of which where stories that featured the Mexican Revolution or banditos. One of the most famous spaghetti westerns is Sergio Leone’s “Man with No Name” trilogy which stared Clint Eastwood. Although Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are some of the most famous characters in Lewis Carroll’s  “Through the Looking Glass” (they never actually appeared in the original “Alice in Wonderland” and debuted in the books sequel), they have yet to play an essential role in Zenescope’s adaptation. They made a brief appearance way back in issue #2 of Return to Wonderland when Calie stumbled upon their bloody bodies (along with the Walrus) at the Fish Dinner’s restaurant. They were apparently murdered by the Carpenter but we never discovered the reasons why or the identity of the two men until now.

Or – “Complications Ensue…” The Black Cat, Photon, Hellcat and Firestar.  Unlikely friends with an unusual career choice.  Each of them is facing a turning point in their lives, whether related to their health, their career, or their love life.  Our four heroes are facing some very human problems, which always makes for interesting drama…

Since Grant Morrison’s R.I.P., the Joker has been pretty scarce, and some have speculated where the Clown Prince of Crime might have wandered off to.  Dead? The new Red Hood? Hunting bats in the far past?  Nope. Turns out he’s been right there waiting to make a dramatic entrance.

Or – “Oh, Good.  Achilles Is Back…  Sigh…” The ‘Rise Of The Olympian’ storyline has been the focal point of Wonder Woman for seemingly fifty-seven years now, and while the last couple of issues have given me pause to remember what I really like about Wonder Woman under Gail Simone, I’m not thrilled to see the Olympian once again taking center stage.  So, how does the issue pan out?

Mickey Mouse is one of those timeless characters that everyone knows. When Entertainment Weekly named John McClane as one of the Coolest Heroes in Pop Culture, they probably never took into account that the hero who gets the job done when no one else will started out as a New York beat cop in the 1970s.  Sure beating the crap out of international terrorists seems pretty glamorous, but what was McClane’s life like before that fateful flight to L.A.?
