Arcana Studios has announced a deal with Legacy Filmworks where five of the comic company’s titles will be made into films.  First out of the gate will be Paradox, starring Kevin Sorbo, and directed by Brenton Spencer. Sorbo plays a homicide cop on a parallel Earth ruled by magic who investigates a series of murders committed by a previously unseen means: the power of science. Christos Gage and Ruth Fletcher Gage wrote the screenplay based on Arcana’s three-issue limited series written by Christos Gage, who has worked for Marvel and DC Comics. Other titles on the film list include Chopper…

Riddle me this:  When is Batman and the Outsiders not Batman and the Outsiders? The answer of course Dear Reader, is when the issue features neither Batman nor the Outsiders.  But there in lies the juicy bits of the issue.  With the “death” of Batman, there has been chaos throughout Gotham City.  And while there are those that are scrambling to fill in the void, there are few who are willing to step up with a new plan.  Someone like Batman’s daughter. Wha?

Believe or not, they did make a comic book In my youth, I spent my summers running through the fields, firing up the newly purchased Commodore 64 and trying to defeat the Wizard of Frobozz, watching The Greatest American Hero on television, and singing along to my own 45 (that’s a record for you young ‘uns) of Believe it or Not. Jump forward 27 years and now I enjoy chasing my kid down the hallway, firing up the latest installment of World of Warcraft and trying to defeat the Lich King, singing along to Believe it or Not on my…

Wow.  I mean, really, wow. After the climactic explosion that ended last issue, and the announcement DC was canceling the Robin title in February, the fate of Tim Drake really seemed to be in question.  Fortunately, comic books run like the Saturday morning serials of yesteryear, the reports of Tim’s death have been greatly exaggerated.  That doesn’t mean Robin’s life won’t be shaken, in fact this issue might be the event that changes everything…again!

“Will Eisner was my mentor, and The Spirit was so awesome a property that I at first thought I was not worthy to do it. And then I couldn’t think of anybody else who was, so I decided that I was the right man for the job.” – Frank Miller on The Spirit movie via SciFi

Pretty funny stuff here. Click to make larger. Modern day awesominers know there are actually 118 fundamental “awesoments” that compose all good things. The Periodic table of Awesoments can be a very useful tool. It’s designed to show the relationships between awesoments, and often one can even predict how awesoments interact simply by their positions on the table. via Dapperstache

Radical Comics has announced Arthur Sydam will be providing the cover to Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising #2 – and it isn’t a zombie variant! “Arthur always delivers when it comes to creating great covers, and this is no different,” said Barry Levine, President and Publisher at Radical. “Going into issue #2 of Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising, we definitely wanted a strong image of Samantha, and I knew that Arthur would be the artist to portray that. What he created is simply amazing, and a wonderful addition to our library of great covers.” Shrapnel #2 arrives in February 2009. via Radical Comics

She’s been the voice of Star Trek computers for 40 years, and just finished work as the computer voice in the upcoming Star Trek movie, so it is sad to hear that Majel Barrett Roddenberry has passed at 76 years of age.  Some will say Star Trek isn’t Star Trek without Kirk, Spock, Picard, or Worf (I don’t know who is saying that about Worf, but whatever…), but really, the Star Trek Universe without Majel’s voice, seems a bit emptier now. via The Beat

I haven’t read too many glowing reviews of Frank Miller’s The Spirit, so I’m a little concerned that Miller’s next project might be a film adaptation of Buck Rogers. Miller will write and direct his own big-screen take on the comic serial; while the creator has only begun to sketch ideas, it’s expected to be a darker take, with many of Miller’s signature visual elements and themes, such as corruption and redemption. A darker take, huh?  Doesn’t sound like a real stretch for the guy who might make Buck Rogers a priority over Sin City 2. Nu Image/Millennium curretnly owns…

Variety is reporting this morning that Stephen Chow will not direct the Seth Rogen Green Hornet film, but will still play the part of Kato.  The reason cited for stepping down is creative differences, which is a shame because Kung Fu Hussle and Shaolin Soccer are two great films that redefine what martial arts movies are about, or could be about.  Had Chow stayed with the picture, I’ve no doubt there would have been some great things to be seen. via Variety
