The comic may have just debuted three days ago, but the film rights to Scott Synder and Jock’s Image Comic series Wytches have been bought up by New Regency with Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B to produce.
Wytches was released on Wednesday during the start of New York Comic Con and, now, a mere three days later we get word that we may be seeing it adapted up on the big screen. Both of the comic creators will act in executive producer roles for the film produced by Plan B.
If you are like me and have not read Wytches yet, this might be the perfect kick in the pants to do so. A comic that can land a movie deal right out of the shoot has to be something special, and Major Spoilers own George Chimples tells you just that in his review of the first issue of the series.
Plan B has two other comic to film adaptations currently in the works with Charles Burns’ graphic novel Black Hole, which has Garth Davis attached as director, and 3 Videotapes, with Ian McCulloch as a writer for the project.
Of course, we must remember that just because the rights to the comic have been acquired for a film, that doesn’t mean that we will ever end up seeing the film. The list of adaptations that never made their way up on to the silver screen is too long to mention here, but we can certainly hope for the best as a non-superhero based comic attempts to make it big in film form.
As pre-production moves along with Wytches you can be sure that we will keep you informed here at Major Spoilers.
