Would you like to take a trip to a galaxy far, far away? That dream will become reality for two people if they can leave the right impression on the Episode VII casting director. Read the descriptions of the two roles after the jump to see if you could be working with J.J. Abrams in the coming months.
On November 14, casting director Maryellen Aviano will be in Chicago looking for two young actors to fill roles in the upcoming reboot restart Star Wars film. The casting call will be at Park West in Lincoln Park from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. if you are interested in attending.
One role is for a female between the ages of 17-18 for a character named Rachel. Rachel is described as a “street smart, independent, athletic, natural beauty” and open to “all ethnicities, multi & bi-racial.”
The second is a male role with an age range of 19-23 and is described as “athletic, smart, handsome” and “independent spirited.” The character is named Thomas and has “grown up without a father’s influence. Without the model of being a man, he doesn’t have the strongest sense of himself.”
Neither one of these roles sounds like an offspring of Jar-Jar Binks, so we can clearly count it as a loss, right?
J.J. Abrams and crew will roll cameras during the first quarter of 2014, with an official release date set for December 18, 2015.

When they are looking for an over weight man in his late thirties let me know
“One role is for a female between the ages of 17-18”
I wonder if just LOOKING like those ages would work. I’m near twice that age, but people still mistake me for a High School Student and assume my goddaughter and I are classmates. And I can’t go to any of the bars in town unless someone who knows me works there.
Oh well, I think I’d rather just hold on to the dream of being part of Star Wars rather than try and fail.
Why Chicago? Are we going to be inflicted with neo-jedi with Al Capone accents? Now, if they put out a casting call for overweight guys pushing 60 who haven’t acted in 45 years, I’m there….
I’m not sure, but there have been quite a few casting calls and calls for extras in Chicago the last decade or so. I live roughly in the mid-Illinois area (borderline mid/lower) and we get news from Chicago that mentions calls for actors and extras every so often. I have a friend who has tried to get me to go try out for various movies, most which were described rather than named, but it just doesn’t appeal to me.
