First Look at Star Trek: Section 31
This week Variety dared to ask the question: does Star Trek still matter? In a lengthy piece where they wrote about the legacy – past and present of Gene Roddenberry’s iconic Wagon Train to the Stars franchise. In the article was some specially commissioned artwork by Neil Jamieson you can see below:
… along with a look at the upcoming third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds:
… and character reveal for the upcoming TV movie Star Trek: Section 31:
A few minutes later, dozens of extras in all manner of outlandish eveningwear file into the club, several of them made up as classic “Star Trek” aliens that fans might be surprised to see in this kind of swanky establishment. But I’m far more distracted by a different discovery: Georgiou is standing with a young Rachel Garrett (Kacey Rohl), a character first introduced on “Next Generation” as the older fearless captain of the USS Enterprise-C.
Arrowverse fans will remember Rohl from her portrayal of Felicity Smoak’s protégée: Alena. Star Trek fans will remember Rachel Garrett from Tricia O’Neal’s fan favourite performance in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Yesterday’s Enterprise.
The article also shared this image from the set of Star Trek: Section 31:
Although there is no premier date yet for the movie this is the most information fans have had about Section 31 so far!
Sonic 3 Wraps & is That Shadow?
Yesterday the third installment in the massively popular Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise wrapped filming according to feature director Jeff Fowler’s Instagram post:

Eagle-eyed Spoilerites will notice the image of popular character Shadow (rumoured by the fandom to be voiced by none other than Star Wars’s newly rediscovered darling, Hayden Christensen, himself), who fans have been clambouring to get a proper look at since Sonic 3 was in development.
At this point with the third movie in the can I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to crown Sonic the Hedgehog the most popular video game adaptation in the world of movies. It stomped the competition in a genre none of us thought possible after many spectacular attempts and failures and with movie three has now surpassed the former reigning champ – Tomb Raider.
Fans will have to wait until Christmas with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 currently slated for a December 20th, 2024 release date. Fear not, though! The Knuckles spinoff streaming series starring Idrid Elba reprising his role as the echidna with the bad attitude hits Paramount+ on April 26th – just a few short weeks away!

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Eye Mid-Range Opening
*cue It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year*
If you, Spoilerite, like myself, love a big dumb monster movie then you are about to join me in heaven with this weekend’s arrival of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Now, if I were the American teams behind the film I would be quaking in my boots with the tremendous box office and critical success of Godzilla Minus One, but comparison is the thief of joy. Let’s get down to the projections.
Variety is predicting far greater box office success for the latest opening in the MonsterVerse overseas then here at Majors Spoilers home in the United States:
The monster mashup, from Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, is targeting $50 million to $55 million from 3,850 theaters in its first weekend of release. “Godzilla” and “Kong” movies tend to be bigger draws overseas, and “The New Empire” likely won’t be any different. It’s projected to bring in a mighty $80 million to $85 million at the international box office.
… adding for context and those of us who want to do the math:
“The New Empire” cost $135 million to produce. If the tentpole can near (or, ideally, surpass) the tally of “Godzilla vs. Kong,” it’ll be well positioned in its box office run.
Although I will add it does have Dune Part 2 AND Ghostbuster: Frozen Empire to deal with. Dueling empires – fun! Making this weekend a packed offering for geeks and genre fans at the cinema. Next week I’ll let you know how this all shook out!
