Previously in Daredevil: Matt Murdock is a Catholic priest overseeing a youth home. After Elektra becomes possessed by a demon, which he exorcised, he puts on the Daredevil outfit to deal with a new gang in town called the Heat. Now, he tries to manage his life as both a priest and a devil, as real demons seem to be prowling the streets.
Daredevil #5 begins with Matt Murdock attempting to buy a television when She-Hulk comes in. She seems to remember who Matt is and tells him he must come to lunch while informing him about the people targeting his youth’s home. They eat a lot, ordering multiple plates of food from numerous restaurants. Also, whenever Matt tries to get information on who is targeting his youth home, She-Hulk avoids the subject by moving to a new chic food place. When they finally stop for dessert, there is a crime scene, and a police officer asks She-Hulk for help against Mister Hyde. Instead, she gets angry and destroys a police car for being in the way of her gelato run.
Matt realizes that She-Hulk has been possessed by a gluttony demon and takes a black tablecloth around his eyes to hide his identity. He sees the gluttony demon within She-Hulk and expels it from her body. Matt then realizes that the seven deadly sins are attacking him, and there are four more to deal with.
This new Daredevil run seems to pit Matt with many of his old allies. First Elektra, then Ben Ulrich, and now She-Hulk. And all of them have been taken over by demons. While this premise is fantastic, this issue didn’t deliver the same tone as the previous issues. Daredevil #5 almost feels like a filler episode. If we could have gotten more information about the person targeting Matt, or if She-Hulk revealed how she remembers him, we could have felt more progression within this issue. Otherwise, it looks like a funny situation and a fight. I want to reiterate that Matt as a priest fighting the Seven Sins is exciting and engaging, but this particular issue didn’t reflect that idea because of the change of atmosphere from previous issues. We are used to Matt on rooftops looking for information, beating people up, and self-reflecting. Instead, he is eating ramen.
Despite that, She-Hulk and the demon within her had great designs that jumped out of the page. Sometimes, the backgrounds felt a little busy, and with these dynamic characters, engaging with the art of Matt Murdock was challenging. Still, good work by the creative team.
While I think this issue wasn’t as strong as some of the others in this title, this is still an excellent comic book and progresses the storyline. Daredevil #5 is still worth a pickup, and this reboot has some exciting ideas. 3 out of 5 stars.

Daredevil #5 seemed to change the tone of the previous issues, which made it feel like a filler despite being part of the narrative arc.
