Previously in X-Men Legends: We return to the Mojoverse! Longshot has been captured by Mojo and Spiral once more and is expected to star in Mojo’s next movie. Mojo then kidnaps Wolverine and Shadowcat to play roles with the plans to kill them all! The X-Men and Longshot must overcome their mind control before killing each other!
A MOVIE LIKE NO OTHER
X-Men Legends #4 shows us key elements of Mojo’s movie. However, Longshot convinces Wolverine that this is all a show when Logan notices a camera in the distance. When Shadowcat attacks Wolverine, she realizes something is wrong. Longshot steps on a mine, and Shadowcat and Wolverine use their powers to save him before the mine detonates. Meanwhile, Mojo and Spiral have a disagreement when Mojo declares, “Women can’t direct.” Spiral then betrays Mojo and sends Wolverine and Shadowcat home while also stealing the movie, with critics calling it a masterpiece!
JUMPED THE SHARK
This story felt like a rushed project to try and wrap up a bunch of plot points without earning the payoff. In writing, the setting, plot, and characters are held together through engaging conflict. Mojoverse is a strong setting, we have many good characters, but the story is just a bit silly. We spent a ton of time with Shadowcat and Wolverine, remembering who they were and saving Longshot instead of engaging in conflict with Mojo. I think a ton of that comes from a lack of setup for Spiral betraying Mojo. I know Spiral and Mojo’s history, but I don’t believe this story prepared anything engaging.
The art style is good. I like the character design of Wolverine and Shadowcat in these odd movie costumes. Spiral also is a fun character to watch. However, the colors felt a little muted for my taste and didn’t allow the character designs to pop off the page.
BOTTOM LINE: NOT FOR ME
I like this comic’s ideas, but I don’t think we had the proper execution. I understand this is supposed to remain in canon, but I needed a little more character and plot development. With that in mind, X-Men Legends #4 is a 2.5 out of 5 stars.

X-Men Legends #4 didn't fulfill the promises I interpreted from X-Men Legends #3, leading to a disappointing conclusion.
