IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

BEAST OF BURDEN WD EM 2 CoverBEASTS OF BURDEN: WISE DOGS AND ELDRITCH MEN #2
    Writer: Evan Dorkin
    Artist: Benjamin Dewey
    Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The dogs have started to solve the occult activity happening around them but one of their own is struck down and puts the mission in jeopardy.

INGRID: Oh my gosh, dogs, you guys! This is a book with beautiful art and dogs that look and act like dogs. But it’s also a serious story involving the occult, and magic, and trying to solve the mystery. This is definitely a new favorite of mine.

STACY: The dogs of Beasts of Burden are an amazing pack of characters, and the angle which seems to be developing here is a great one. Questions are asked, questions are answered, and more mystery is brought to the fore.

    Bone Parish #3BONE PARISH #3
    Writer: Cullen Bunn
    Artist: Jonas Scharf
    Publisher: BOOM! Studios
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Winters knew making a drug from the ashes of the dead could have fatal consequences—but now that drug may be the only thing that can help them save their family from the Cartel. But will they survive this deadly gambit?

STEPHEN: At this point, I’m on the lookout for anything by Cullen Bunn. His writing is so good, and he is always teaming up with great artists. The concept is weird (but not out of the ordinary in comics, so check this series (and this issue) out this week.

    FAITH DS 001 COVER B MEYNET 1FAITH: DREAMSIDE #1
    Writer: Jody Houser
    Artist: MJ Kim
    Publisher: Valiant Entertainment LLC
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: ALL-NEW SERIES! Faith enters a realm previously unseen!
Even before Faith Herbert, AKA Zephyr, gained the power of flight, joined the Harbinger Renegades, and soared through the skies of the Valiant Universe, deep down she was always a hero at heart. But what’s a hero to do in the face of a foe that exists only in nightmares? Face them head-on, of course! To protect the dreams of her teammate, Animalia, Faith must venture into a fantastical new realm the likes of which we’ve never seen…and she’ll need some help from the world’s premiere parapsychologist, Dr. Mirage, to make it back with her subconscious mind still intact!

INGRID: Faith is just a really cool hero. Just now, she’s lying low, after having been framed for murder, but that can’t last for long. People need her help! It looks like she’ll be teaming up with Dr. Mirage for a paranormal type adventure, which sounds super interesting.

heroes in crisis 1HEROES IN CRISIS #1
    Writer: Tom King
    Artist: Clay Mann
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: There’s a new kind of crisis threatening the heroes of the DC Universe, ripped from real-world headlines by C.I.A.-operative-turned-comics-writer Tom King: How does a superhero handle PTSD?

Welcome to Sanctuary, an ultra-secret hospital for superheroes who’ve been traumatized by crime-fighting and cosmic combat. But something goes inexplicably wrong when many patients wind up dead, with two well-known operators as the prime suspects: Harley Quinn and Booster Gold! It’s up to the DC Trinity of Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman to investigate—but can they get the job done in the face of overwhelming opposition?

STEPHEN: Look, I’m not happy that REDACTED and REDACTED and possibly REDACTED are dead in this series, and certainly, murder porn isn’t my thing, but there were some really good things that came from Identity Crisis (and some bad things). And since DC is pushing this series hard, and Tom King is writing, I’m going to give it a chance and see what is up.
