9) PROSPERO
Likewise originating from ‘The Tempest’, the name Prospero is used there for the exiled Duke of Milan, a powerful sorcerer who vows to give up his wicked book and magic at the end of the story. In the wonderful comic book world of ‘PS 238’, Prospero is the name given to an alien “exchange student” who lands on Earth and uses his technology to approximate super-powers. (There’s also a Prospero in ‘The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen’, but that character is explicitly Shakespeare’s, appearing as part of the book’s premise that all of fiction actually occurred in that world.)
