This might have come as a surprise to many, but over the weekend, Sony released the first trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animated movie.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

For some reason, I think Lord and Miller are doing great work in the animated space, which is often more forgiving than a major studio legacy franchise, so I’m interested in seeing where this goes. Though I wish we could have seen Miles Morales in a live-action feature, I like the look and style in this trailer, and I’m hoping this leads to a whole series of animated films featuring Miles and the rest of the Spider-Men (and women) of the Spider0Verse.
The bad news? We have to wait until Christmas 2018 to queue up to watch this in theaters.
