Previously in Ultimate Black Panther: The fight against Moon Knight continues on.  Ororo and Killmonger have set out to find someone who can help with magic and in doing so discovered a captured woman named Inan who may have the skills they need.

    ROCK THE BOAT

Ultimate Black Panther #10 starts with Black Panther chasing down one of the two beings who make up Moon Knight.  He is able to disable them and then kill them.  A mysterious figure appears and taunts him, as well as his reliance on vibranium.  T’challa tries to remove his suit but discovers it has become part of his skin.  He then wakes up, realizing it was all a nightmare.  Okoye finds him in the throne room and asks him to open up to her.  He resists and goes to work in the lab.  Elsewhere, Killmonger, Storm, and Inan are on a ship heading towards Africa.  Storm fills Inan in on the situation, and in turn Inan reveals some of her abilities by summoning a giant shark.  The team is then set upon by an attack helicopter, leaving Killmonger wounded.  Inan is then able to disable the helicopter with her magic and feed the pilot to her new shark friend.  Inan then reveals her true form.

    TREADING WATER

While I’ve been glad that they have been taking their time with this story,  its ability to support this many issues is starting to come into question. So little happens in this issue that charging full price for this seems questionable.  It’s not poorly written, though, and the interactions between Inan and Storm are legitimately interesting, but this whole chapter feels like complete filler.  The only thing that is accomplished in this issue is giving Inan space to flex her powers and look cool, but even then, it’s presented flatly without any tension, basically a throwaway bad guy appears, and Inan dispatches them with little effort.  Once again, nothing about this issue is outright badly done; it is just completely unnecessary.

    AN INTERESTING NEW COSTUME

When it comes to visuals, the big story here is the reveal of Inan in her Sorcerer Supreme outfit.  For the most part it takes a lot of the features of the usual Stephen Strange Sorcerer Supreme outfit.  There were tights, a tunic, a cape, red and purple coloring, but then they decided to give it a boob window.  I won’t say whether this is a good addition or a bad one, but it’s certainly a strange one.  One of the best parts of The Ultimate Universe this time around has been a lot of the costume designs, but this one comes off as kind of lazy

BOTTOM LINE:  A REAL LOW POINT

This might be my least favorite issue I’ve read from the Ultimate Universe lineup of books.  Ultimate Black Panther #10 doesn’t do anything to justify its existence.  It doesn’t add anything to the ongoing series, Black Panther is barely in it, the big reveal of Inan and her Sorcerer Supreme abilities and costume were lackluster and also didn’t really add much to the story.  The only thing it actually accomplishes in doing is showing that the fight between Moon Knight and Black Panther has gone on too long and is in desperate need for something interesting to happen to help stick the landing.  2.5 out of 5 stars.

Needs to Pick Up the Pace

Black Panther #10 struggles to provide anything to justify its existence. The ongoing story is going nowhere, and this issue has done nothing to speed things up. On top of this, it fails to adequately showcase a new character in a memorable way.

    Jonathan Cadotte

At a young age, Jonathan was dragged to a small town in Wisconsin. A small town in Wisconsin that just so happened to have a comic book shop. Faced with a decision to either spend the humid summers and bitter winters traipsing through the pine trees or in climate controlled comfort with tales of adventure, horror, and romance, he chose the latter. Jonathan can often be found playing video games, board games, reading comics and wincing as his “to watch” list grows wildly out of control.
