Major Spoilers Question of the Day: Always Five, Acting As One Edition

Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonOctober 23, 20176 Comments1 Min Read

There are a lot of great catchphrase moments in pop culture and comics: Superman’s “UP, UP AND AWAY!”  Captain Reynolds’ “We aim to misbehave.”  Matter-Eater Lad’s “That makes me hungry… and you DON’T want to make ME hungry!”  Great taglines, catchphrases and slogans are the way of the world when it comes to our favorite stories, but at the top of the heap has to be the Bill Woodson-spoken opening lines of ‘Battle Of The Planets’, where he intoned in a majestic baritone that the team of ninja orphan cyborgs were “Always Five, Acting As ONE!”  It’s a magnificent boast on the surface of things, one that’s hard to beat, leading to today’s voice-over query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) thinks that maybe “Avengers Assemble!” is on that level, but there aren’t a lot of others, asking: Does any fictional character or team have a tagline/catchphrase cooler than “Always Five, Acting As One?”

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

Hmm, not sure. I always liked Professor X using “To me, my X-Men!” and it was twice as cool when Cyclops did it.

I dunno if it’s a catchphrase, but I always liked the chant: “Gooba-gobble. Gooba-gobble. We accept her. We accept her. One of us. One of us.”

“Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.”
“I love it when a plan comes together”
      “Make it so”
      “Resistance is Futile”

“Activate interlock, dynotherms connected, infracells up, megathrusters are go!””

Wonder Twin Power Activate! (okay not really, but that one always made me giggle.) Real vote is a x2 on EXTERMINATE
