    9) THE BLOB…  IS JUST GROSS

    Speaking of horrific and crossovers, ‘Ultimatum’ was, top to bottom, a slaughterhouse for the characters: Doctor Strange’s head was burst on-panel by Dormammu; Professor X was murdered by his oldest friend;, Cyclops killed Magneto in return.  Even with the decapitations, explodifications and drownings nobody got it worse than The Wasp, who was inexplicably eaten by The Blob.  (He had hinted at cannibalistic leanings in the Ultimate universe unlike the regular version.)  It’s a scene as unnecessary as it is shocking, a fine metaphor for ‘Ultimatum’ itself.

    Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

      I was just looking up Old Man Logan, now that was ridiculous – eating Wolverine should be on here… but also the indigestion afterwards. Very wrong.
