    2) JASON

    JasonKI-KI-KI!  MA-MA-MA!

Jason Voorhees, the villain of the Friday the 13th franchise (or most of it, as he wasn’t the villain of the first or fifth, if memory serves) has become synonymous with slasher flicks and has become one of the foremost monsters of the genre.  His hockey mask and machete are iconic, and he has proven hard to kill both in-story and at the box office.  As for comic book Jason, he spent three issues (Showcase #88-#90 circa 1969) searching for his long-lost sister.  The brainchild of Mike Sekowsky, (also the man behind mod late-60s kung-fu Wonder Woman, Jason wasn’t even able to complete his quest, let alone make it to New York or outer space like his undead movie counterpart.

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

I think you mean 1986’s Manhunter, not Red Dragon. Red Dragon was the loose re-adaptation of Manhunter from 2002.
