SOLICITATION: • What do you do when a sentient cosmic event rampages through Japan? ASSEMBLE A-FORCE!

• To combat the villainous ANTIMATTER, Singularity will call upon Earth’s mightiest team of Avengers. And one thing’s for sure: They are A FORCE to be reckoned with!
MATTHEW: Wanna know how good this book is?
It’s good enough to forgive that banal, insipid “A Force to be reckoned with” line.
AMAZING FOREST #2
Writer: Ulises Farinas, Erick Freitas
Artist: Caitlin Rose Boyle, Angelica Blevins, Buster Moody,
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: 3.99
SOLICITATION: Tales for the bold. Ideas for the strange. Ulises Farinas, Erick Freitas, and a cavalcade of new talents bring to life amazing fantastical tales: a detective hunts down a cannibal cult! A villain fed up with the evil business! A king tries to protect his people from turning into giraffes! And a tale of creation run amok!
RODRIGO: Anthology books are something I always look forward to. Especially if the stories are done in one.
CAPTAIN MARVEL #2
Writer: Tara Butters, Michele Fazekas
Artist: Kris Anka
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Between hosting a contingent of alien ambassadors, passive aggressive power struggles with her Flight Commander, Abigail Brand, and an insatiable itch to be on the front lines, Carol Danvers A.K.A. Captain Marvel struggles to find her footing on the new Alpha Flight Space Station. To top it off a mysterious ghost ship has entered protected Earth space…And it’s bearing the Star of Hala. Talk about a rough first week on the job…
ROB: I’ve been unable to read the first issue as of yet, but I’m still excited Carol is being pushed to the front and have hopes that I’ll be reading this comic for some time to come.
DEJAH THORIS #1
Writer: Frank J. Barbiere
Artist: Francisco Manna
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Prepare yourself for Dejah Thoris as you’ve never seen her before! A shocking conspiracy unravels in Helium as Dejah’s father has gone missing. In the wake of assuming the throne, Dejah learns secret information from her past that will have resounding effects on the kingdom – and her life! Join Frank J. Barbiere (The Howling Commandos of SHIELD, The Precinct) and Francesco Manna (Vampirella #100) as Dejah discovers a secret past that will have her leaving Helium for an all-new adventure on her own!
MATTHEW: Though I’m only vaguely interested in John Carter, I like Dejah as a concept and a character, and the recent Dynamite books featuring her have been excellent…
STEPHEN: The art by Francisco Manna is fantastic in this issue. THe tale is good as well, but I was more enchanted by the pictures in this debut issue than anything else.
DONALD DUCK #10
Writers: Pat and Carol McGreal
Artist: Giorgio Cavazzano
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: 3.99
SOLICITATION: “Bad Day at Black Water!” Why do torch-wielding mobs want Donald and Uncle Scrooge out of their remote mountain town? Is it something in the springwater? Or scarier?
RODRIGO: Sometimes it’s just nice to sit on the couch and check back with Donald and his nephews.
HOWARD THE DUCK #4
Writer: Chip Zdarsky
Artist: Joe Quinones
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: She’s obsessed, she’s powerful, she’s ALMOST the new herald of Galactus! And like the rest of the universe, SCOUT is after Howard. But with an eye to ending the hunger of the Devourer of Worlds!
DAVID: This book has made me feel just about every feeling possible so far, except boredom.
KLAUS #3
Writer: Grant Morrison
Artist: Dan Mora
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Klaus is caught delivering presents to the town’s children and must fight his way past Lord Magnus’s guards to avoid imprisonment.
WAYNE: I know, I know! The Christmas season ended a long time ago, but this great Morrison re-imagining of the Guy in the Red Suit has really been terrific, so even if you need to play holiday music when reading this comic to get in the mood, do it!
PAPER GIRLS #3
Writer: Brian K. Vaughan
Artist: Cliff Chiang, Matt Wilson
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: 2.99
SOLICITATION: The ongoing mystery series from BRIAN K. VAUGHAN & CLIFF CHIANG charges ahead, as the girls have a close encounter with an unexpected visitor.
DAVID: What is going on in this book? Why can’t I put it down? Does Brian K Vaughan have me under a spell? Does Cliff Chiang’s art have hidden messages that tell me to keep reading? Whatever the reason, I know I’ll be snatching this book up tomorrow.
RODRIGO: Somehow I missed the existence of this comic. It is an error I hope to correct.
REPLICA #3
Writer: Paul Jenkins
Artist: Andy Clarke
Publisher: AfterShockComics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: In this issue we meet Number Three, a hippy, stoner, dropout of the highest (or lowest) order whose laziness drives Trevor absolutely insane. We also continue our pentacontagon love affair), the Scarlet are still a pain, Veet-Bot shows his fighting capabilities, a witness actually survives protective custody, and Vorgas gets stoned!
WAYNE: I love this series, probably my favorite from AfterShock, which is saying something since I enjoy ALL of their product! If you are looking for something different, I highly recommend this title!
SHUTTER #18
Writer: Joe Keatinge
Artist: Leila Del
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: NEW STORY ARC! “ALL ROADS,” Part One. Kate knows everything! We don’t! The first issue in a series that sheds light on the past Kate and company tried to leave behind, and the answers that past contains for where they go next. All roads converge. Not everyone survives the trip.
WAYNE: I’m a big fan of this comic, which is unlike anything else out today! This is a perfect place to jump on, so don’t miss it!
SPIDER-MAN #1
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Sara Pichelli
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Miles Morales has been doing the super hero thing for a while, now, but after SECRET WARS, he’ll be a full-fledged member of the Marvel Universe. Swinging next to The Invincible Iron Man, The Mighty Thor and the All-New Captain America as a card-carrying member of the Avengers is an adventure, but it’s not all fun and games for New York City’s main Spider-MAN! What happened in the eight month gap? It all starts in SPIDER-MAN #1!
MATTHEW: The balancing act of multiple Spider-Men gets interesting this week, as Miles Morales takes to the skies of New York. With Peter Parker going global, Spider-Man has a chance to really make his mark…
ROB: Wooo! More Miles and just more Spidey in general. The Spider-Corner of the Marvel Universe has been my favorite for most of the last few years, and I’m happy seeing Miles fully part of that.
STEPHEN: I’ve drifted away from the Spider-Man series over the last year, but now that Miles Morales is part of the Main Marvel U (is it still called 616?), I’m going to back issue the heck out of the Spider-titles, but I’m going to start with this book first!
SURVIVOR’S CLUB #5
Writers: Dale Halvorsen, Lauren Beukes
Artist: Ryan Kelly
Publisher: Vertigo
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Harvey is a captive audience for Alice’s creepy childhood stories. Simon tries to figure out the bloody message from his missing parents. Kiri and Teo play show-and-tell with their monsters and Chenzira gets too deep into the mind of a video game.
THOMAS: This is the make-or-break issue for me. A series starring survivors from slasher flicks is a great idea, especially when the cast seems to be cursed with lingering supernatural problems. But a lack of characterization combined with a weak MacGuffin (A haunted video game? Seriously?) may spell an early end for my attention.
UNCANNY X-MEN #3
Writer: Cullen Bunn
Artist: Greg Land
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: With mutantkind in extinction’s crosshairs once more, Magneto leads a team of the deadliest X-Men to fight for the fate of their species! But can the Master of Magnetism curb his killer instincts long enough to find out who’s trying to speed up mutantkind’s descent into the grave? Plus: Fantomex! Triage! And an X-Man you probably thought you’d never see again…
ROB: Woo, Uncanny X-Forc. . . Uncanny X-Men, but it’s the same theme as the X-Force books of the last few years and least, and so far the team is intriguing at least. Not sold on the story yet, but I’m sticking through the first arc at least.
