MATTHEW: Another surprising book for me, it’s interesting to see Laura as Wolverine, and I’m enjoying the art…

Meanwhile, Dick Grayson and Harper Row meet the mysterious Sculptor, a woman who reshapes minds! And with every clue they assemble, a terrible picture of Bruce Wayne’s darkest hour is emerging…
WAYNE: It’s so great to have another great weekly Bat-comic! It’s interesting premise focuses on the Batman family, so it’s a weekly must-read!
BLACK CANARY #5
Writer: Brendan Fletcher
Artist: Annie Wu
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: The secret of who assembled this pack of misfits into the band that became Black Canary is revealed-and the answer is stranger than you’d ever dream! There’s a higher purpose to dropping Ditto into Dinah’s life, but will they both survive the mission they’re meant to complete?
MATTHEW: The slow transformation of Black Canary back into her pre-Flashpoint self continues, and I’m glad to see this one hasn’t been canned like so many of DC’s reimaginings lately…
RUMBLE #10
Writer: John Arcudi
Artist: James Harren
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.50
SOLICITATION: Wrapping up the 2nd big RUMBLE arc with battles, rescues, betrayals, and one hell of a last page! MAJOR PLOT POINT Major character dies.
CHRIS: Rumble is fast paced in almost every way imaginable. The story never slows down or gets boring and the artwork has a ferocious flowing movement that is unlike anything I’ve seen in another comic. While the story may not always do it for me, the artwork is outstanding and floors me each issue. Plus, the protagonist is a scarecrow with a giant sword. What’s not to like?
SQUADRON SUPREME #2
Writer: James Robinson
Artist: Leonard Kirk
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: They’re each the sole survivor of a lost Earth and they’ll do anything to protect this one, whether you like it or not. The Squadron Supreme — comprising Hyperion (Avengers), Nighthawk (Supreme Power), Dr. Spectrum (the Great Society), Blur (DP7) and Power Princess — are a team that doesn’t ask permission or what the rules are. To them all that matters is the safety of Earth and if you stand in the way…that’s your problem! Tell that to the Squadron’s first target — Namor, destroyer of Dr. Spectrum’s homeworld, who will have to pay for his crimes…but at what cost to the people of Atlantis.
MATTHEW: It’s a damn confusing premise, but #1 had enough substance (and at least one truly shocking moment) to get me to come back for more. Robinson is a polarizing writer, but this one had a strong start…
WAYNE: I’ve always liked Marvel’s version of DC’s Justice League, particularly Nighthawk (Batman) and his various costumes. Great creative team on this title, so I’m enjoying it greatly!
SUPERMAN: LOIS AND CLARK #3
Writer: Dan Jurgens
Artist: Lee Weeks
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Who – or what – is Blanque? What is being held in this Superman’s Fortress of Solitude? And what is Intergang, and why is their discovery dangerous to Lois? Whatever the answers, neither Clark nor Lois want their son to learn the truth…
WAYNE: There’s something about Superman that always brings out the best in Dan Jurgens, even if he’s only writing it! This spins out of the recent Convergence event, and it’s worth catching up on if you haven’t been reading it so far!
TRANSFORMERS SINS OF THE WRECKERS #2
Writer: Nick Roche
Artist: Nick Roche
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: FROSTY RECEPTION! THE WRECKERS journey to Nome, Alaska to track down the number one suspect in PROWL’s disappearance-their former human ally, VERITY CARLO!
CHRIS: The first issue was a great start as a sequel to Last Stand of the Wreckers and while this will only appeal to readers who read the previous story, it’s still a great continuation. The characters have changed since their last outing and it’s going to be fun to see them get back into the swing of things. This issue also has a bunch of Beast Wars characters, which makes it even cooler.
