Our superheroes, as with any form of media that lasts for decade after decade, are subject to the fickle whims of fashion. In the 1960s, both Doctor Strange and Iron Man sported pencil-thin mustaches in the David Niven style, expressing their worldly manners and attitudes. (DC heroes were far too clean-cut for whiskers, save for wild free-live liberal hippie, Green Arrow.). Although the first images of Benedict Cumberbatch as strange escaping into the wild, we still don’t know whether he’ll be wearing his traditional mustache or the new fangled goatee that Strange has worn in Marvel books in recent years, leading to today’s hirsute query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) still pictures Tony Stark with his pencil-thin jerk moustache, even with RDJ owning the role, asking: When it comes to heroic facial hair choices, do you favor moustache or goatee?

When it comes to comics, I associate moustache more with heroes, especially thick, Tom Selleck style. Goatee is reserved for renegade or villain types, with few exceptions.
I guess I’ve always felt that a moustache was lacking something and it turned out to be the additional chin hair that turned it into a goatee. So, goatee is my choice.
Mustaches make me think of film stars of a certain seedy variety. I don’t want them anywhere near superheroes. Goatees all the way
Waddabout Dum Dum Dugan? Can anyone rock the ‘stache like that besides a superhero?
Walrus-stache? Awesome…
Moustache.
