I’ve heard that the sequel to Despicable Me is so good, that during a recent screening, audience stood up and applauded the film.
Gru is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a powerful new super criminal.
Did you see the movie? Is it better than the first? Did you stand up and clap at the end, or did you find an excuse to leave the theater early? Use the comment section to share your thoughts on Despicable Me 2.

I enjoyed this film more than I have any in a long time! Great family entertainment that has just the right amount of sarcasm and wit to keep the whole family in stitches and yes it also managed to surpass the first movie…in no small part to the minions. Who would have thought in the summer of superman and another trek to the stars that it would be a beak-nosed, bald, meglomaniac who has me clammering for more.
Enjoyed it, but…
What the first film brought to the table was essentially a Bond Villain who softens because of 3 little girls. It was a unique premise done in a unique way.
This film is basically a love story, that just happens to have 3 little girls …sometimes. It’s a tired premise done in the same unique way as the first film.
Don’t get me wrong. It was entertaining as all get-out, and I had fun with it. But I would rather have had Gru and the girls deal with everyday life as a single father with 3 kids, and draw complications from that (as well as complications from his former villainous life).
I don’t think adding a female “love interest” adds anything to the series. I can live with it though, as long as there are more Despicable Me stories made.
All things going well, this new cast member won’t be perceived, by the core fans, as a shark in disguise that Gru has to jump over, or in movie terms: a fridge to be nuked.
Watched it last night with the wife.
It’s a worthy sequel.
The trailers don’t give too much away which was a bonus for me.
I heard much child laughter and adult laughter throughout.
I think there’s enough here to warrant seeing the movie at full price.
4/5 for me.
