This week, Boom! Studios is offering up four titles for our weekly sneak peek that arrive in stores this week (Jan 7, 2009). Take the jump for Cthulhu Tales: The Series #10, Hexed #1 (read our early review here), Last Reign: Kings of War #2, and Warhammer 40K: Defenders Of Ultramar #2
Cthulhu Tales: The Series #10 – FALL OF CTHULHU writer Michael Alan Nelson pens the first part of a special tale of creeping chaos that ties directly into the events of the FALL OF CTHULHU: APOCALYPSE series, providing new insights and background into that epic tale! Also: “Comeback Tour” written by Jeff (SAM & MAX) Lester!
Hexed #1 – Explosive first issue! It’s said there’s no honor amongst thieves. Add to that a thief operating in the occult underground, and it’s a whole different kind of nasty! Luci Jennifer Inagcio Das Neves, Lucifer for short, takes a new job that will expose her to the macabre underbelly of the city, and a secret that she’d rather nobody know. A brand new series by Michael Alan Nelson, the critically acclaimed author of FALL OF CTHULHU, and hot new art talent Emma Rios! Available with two cover by Emma Rios and Joe Pekar.
Last Reign: Kings of War #2 – Director Walt Becker (VAN WILDER, WILD HOGS) comes to BOOM! in a big way with his sci-fi/fantasty tale of knights in a post-apocalyptic future! Darius embarks on a dangerous journey to the City of Kings. Only cold steel will save him from the unhuman beasts that stand in his way! Scripted by Michael Alan Nelson, the fan-favorite writer of FALL OF CTHULHU and SECOND WAVE. Cover by top WARHAMMER talent Karl Richardson!
Warhammer 40K: Defenders Of Ultramar #2 – Discover one of the fiercest fighting Chapters in the Universe: The Ultramarines 4th Company! Sergeant Learchus must take twenty-five newly recruited Battle Brothers on their first engagement, as they embark on an investigation of the lost patrol ship Guilliman’s Honour. What was a routine mission becomes much more when 4th Company encounters one of the Imperium’s deadliest enemies! Writer Graham McNeill (THE ULTRAMARINE OMNIBUS) and artist Kevin Hopgood (co-creator of Marvel Comic’s U.S. WAR MACHINE) embark on a new chapter in the Empire’s Imperium’s fight for supremacy!

I’ve heard good stuff about Michael Alan Nelson’s Cthulu books, and I think it’s about time I checked ’em out. Also, Hexed looks great. I’ll definitely be picking that one up.
