He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is getting a six-issue mini-series from DC Comics starting in July, and the story, and creators might surprise you.
The limited series will be written by James Robinson, with art by Phillip Tan and inks by Ruy Jose.
In the new series, Robinson reintroduces the Masters of the Universe® to comic readers with Skeletor having won a major victory and rewriting the world of Eternia where he now rules from Castle Grayskull and the Masters have no memory of their former glory. Adam is a simple woodsman haunted by dreams of a heroic warrior, wielding a powerful sword in battle. He is found by a mysterious sorceress who tells him his dreams are of the way the world should be, that he is Eternia’s champion He-Man. Adam sets off on a quest to regain his power and reawaken the Masters of the Universe.
DUN! DUN! DUUUUUUUN!
Are you lining up for this now, or are you going to wait for Mattel to announce the new figure line that goes along with this series?

In an attempt to not sound like “that guy” I’m gonna hold judgement till I see what happens for sure in the first few issues. It could be good but again its going to be a story that has been done before. The bad guy takes over erases everyone’s memory but leaves just a glimmer of hope so he can be defeated. Its like what Adam Warlock said in the Infinity Gauntlet “Deep deep down you want to be defeated.” I just hope the art doesn’t suck and there might be something more then a thin veil of plot.
Skeletor has never been on par with Thanos though. Skeletor’s magic has always had limits that could be exploited. This plot device may not be new, but it gives the writers room to tell an origin story without retreading over things the fans already know.
I might pick up the first issue and see how much I still like one of my childhood favorites, but unless Skeletor is pretty awesome I might get bored and wander away.
I’m down for both the series and some new He-man toys.
I like the plot device, and I’d love to see the preposterous ways that they will make rediculous characters ‘forget’ that they have a telescopic neck or are a man made of moss. It should be awesome, and I’d be down for an ongoing.
Definitely worth checking out for a few reasons, aside from me checking out a property I have respect for and believe can always be better than it is usually done, My children also like the old He-Man series and will enjoy it also.
with the current trend at DC comics,i have a feeling this will not be a comic your kids will be able to read.this will more than likely be a darker, grittier He-man.
After hearing Rodrigo going on and on about He-Man toys, I am looking forward to finding out what all the fuss was about. Being a young newcomer to the pop culture realm and not having much experience with animated television, I am glad DC is expanding my horizons.
If you have NetFlix, there’s a crap ton of He-Man animated shows for your viewing pleasure.
