A quick glance at the USA Today 150 Best Sellers for the week has the Watchmen trade paperback tumbling to the number 51 spot on the list.  Readers will remember Watchmen climbed high on the charts following the very brief Watchmen trailer that was tagged to the Dark Knight movie this past summer. In other Watchmen news, Zack Snyder has confirmed that the movie will come in at 2 hours and 43 minutes in order to tell the story he wants to tell. via USA TODAY

I loved Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, and apparently so did everyone else, as a sequel is in the works. With all the things going on in Dr. Horrible’s life, we may not see much of him in the new DVD, but we will see a lot of other characters from the Evil League of Evil. And that’s where you come in! The rumblings you’ve been hearing in the criminal underground since July indeed are true: At long last, we are seeking new applicants to the League.1 Aspirants to new heights of Evil should submit an application video that meets the…

That’s the surprising news from Variety this morning, which has the famed Shakespearean actor/director in talks with Marvel Studios to helm the Thor adaptation for a 2010 release. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige’s choice of Branagh is surprising, as Branagh hasn’t really directed an action-heavy film since his debut on “Henry V,” a bloody telling of the British king’s conquest of France. Marvel has yet to announce who will play the blond haired Norse god, and many wild rumors have circulated with everyone from Matthew McConaughey to Matt Damon to Brad Pitt playing the lead. via Variety

Sad news for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, Universal Pictures has decided to pull out of the three picture deal for the CGI adaptation of Tintin.  The biggest reason for the break in the deal wasn’t Spielberg trying to break DreamWorks away from Paramount, but the $130 million budget.  In a day an age where $130 million seems like a drop in the bucket for a franchise that could literally net Universal ten times that in world wide distribution, something certainly seems fishy. Perhaps it was the 30% of gross Spielberg and Jackson wanted – meaning Tintin would have to…

Probably the most exciting news to filter through the Interwebs over the weekend, was the story of Stephen Chow signing to direct and star in the Green Hornet.  Now I don’t know how many Major Spoilers readers have seen Kung Fu Hustle or Shaolin Soccer but those two flicks are great examples of how to blend action, humor, and kick-ass special effects into films that work. My earlier fears were Judd Apatow, who is brilliant by the way, would try to tackle this film, which really wouldn’t have been a good mix, but now with this news, my interest in…

“The minds of Marvel are sometimes opaque,” Norton told MTV News. “I won’t say [they’re] obtuse, but I don’t have any idea what they want to do.” Norton said he’s also been kept in the dark regarding any plans for him, in his role as Hulk’s alter-ego Bruce Banner, to appear in Marvel’s big team-up project, “The Avengers.” The film, which is expected to feature The Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America and several other Marvel characters, is currently scheduled for a 2011 release. “They’ve got this notion of collecting the Marvel characters,” said Norton, who appeared a bit skeptical of…

Here’s what we know about the Marc Guggenheim, Michael Green, and Greg Berlanti Green Lantern script: It will feature Hal Jordan It is “an incredibly faithful rendition of the character” The film is currently undergoing a rewrite The images by Brian Murray are reported to be concept sketches for the film, and as they have been pretty much pulled from teh Interwebs (except for Cinematical) it looks like these could be how Hal will appear If the concept sketches are to be believed, Emerald Dawn could be the storyline for the film. Even with the Emerald Dawn adaptation, I wonder…

Can you believe Brendan Fraser could have been Superman, and that Lex Luthor might have been a Fox Mulder type character working for the CIA?  That’s how the story would have played out if J.J. Abrams had his way with Superman: Flyby that was in production from 2002 – 2004. On Earth, Lex Luthor is a CIA Agent who specializes in X-Files-type cases, Clark meets Lois Lane before she’s a reporter, and the super suit is actually a living liquid contraption that sucks Clark Kent into it. Of course Kata-Zor finds Clark and sends his own son Ty-Zor to Earth…

Say What!?  Universal Pictures just cut a deal to bring that most awesome of ’70’s shows Sigmund and the Sea Monsters to the big screen.  Dana Gould of The Simpsons fame will be writing and producing. “Sigmund” originally ran on NBC from 1973-75, and the show was a staple in reruns on local TV stations for the rest of the decade. After the sea monster is booted from his home by his nasty brothers for being too nice, Sigmund is befriended by two friends who stash him in their clubhouse. As a wee lad, I remember going down to the…
