As expected, the Zack Snyder adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ masterpiece Watchmen was the top movie this past weekend bringing in $55.7 million domestically and $83.2 million worldwide. As great as that news is, Watchmen didn’t open as high as some had expected, not even meeting Zack Snyder’s last film, 300, which brought in $70.9 million domestically. As hyped as audiences were after seeing the trailer that was tacked on to the Dark Knight Returns movie, I wonder what could be the reason for the lower than expected numbers? Fans loyal to Alan Moore, boycotting the film? Too…
Time for some filler During the long dark tea time between Batman RIP and the actual beginning of Battle for the Cowl, Batman fans are looking everywhere to get their Bat-Fix, and DC delivers this week with Gotham Gazette #1. It’s not really a newspaper, and the menagerie of stories inside really don’t fit a newspaper format, but it does fill that void since the last appearance of Batman.
I’ve been meaning to post some of Marcio Takara’s works here, but got behind (as usual). If you want some awesome images of Marvel and DC characters, Marcio has you covered. Check out his take on Phoenix. it was meant to be something else… but I decided to use it to draw a Marvel character again. The last time we had Wes Molebash on the show, he mentioned a new project was in the works. This is a crappy looking .gif image, but I wanted to give you guys a taste of what’s to come. Stay tuned for the actual launch date which will be pretty soon. I’m already working on my buffer… Well, he did say it wasn’t his Zuda Kittens project. Charlie looks like an interesting character, so we’ll just have to talk with Wes real soon about his new endeavor. via YHT.com
Nothing like jumping on the bandwagon late. The New York Times has unveiled a new feature for the Arts section that offers up a Graphic Novel Best Seller List. And today The Times introduces three separate lists of the best-selling graphic books in the country: hardcover, softcover, and manga. We’ll update those lists weekly in this space, and offer a few observations along the way. Take the jump for the Graphic Books Best Seller List (hardcover), then head over to the NY Times site to see where the Watchmen ranked.
Unfortunately, the new trailer for the upcoming Terminator Salvation trailer only features Christian Bale yelling at cyborgs and robots.
Suddenly, going to see the new Star Trek film has me all excited. [quicktime width=”640″ height=”300″]http://movies.apple.com/movies/paramount/star_trek/startrek-tlr3_h.640.mov[/quicktime] See the HD version at the Apple site.
Perhaps you’ve heard of this highly hyped Watchmen movie that opens today. Perhaps you were one of the fortunate masses, who stood in line for hours, only to wide up sitting next to that big sweaty smelly guy, who ended up dripping nacho cheese on your arm, but on the plus side offered you some of his Junior Mints, but you got to see the film before anyone else (although that other big sweaty smelly guy in front of you was blocking half the screen). Perhaps you were the big sweaty smelly guy who was annoyed by that person sitting…
The saga that will not die (because it keeps coming back to life and eating your brains) Marvel Zombies, is back in an all new series, promising blood, thrills, and gore. Who can prevent the carnage this time? It looks like it could be the Midnight Sons, providing they keep a good head on their shoulders. Marvel has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek of the first issue from the upcoming series.
NBC has announced it has ordered another 18-20 episodes Heroes. While the show has stumbled a bit this season as far as ratings go, it is tied with The Office as the network’s top rated series for the 18-49 crowd. What do you want to see in season 4? The introduction of a character with magical powers that turns back time to a point where none of the mutants Heroes exist? Giant robots programmed by the gov’ment that are released into society to hunt down those mutants Heroes who haven’t registered? Or maybe the mutants Heroes will have some infighting…
Time to lighten up everyone – and what better way to do it, than with the weekly Friday Sing-a-Long. “A Little Prayer (Wolverine’s Theme)” from “X-Men” Lyrics by John Aboud Vocals by Marya Grandy Music by Baron and Baron Productions
Image Comics has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek of Charlatan Ball #8, Madman Atomic Comics, Vol. 2 trade paperback, and The Walking Dead #59.
Variety is reporting the midnight showings of the Watchmen have already grossed the film $4.6 million. The film opens in 3,611 theaters across the rest of the country today (now, depending on your time zone, or a couple of weeks ago if you are one of those that stumble into this site from some point in the future). “300” grossed $70.9 million in its opening weekend in early March 2006. Box observers believe “Watchmen” will beat that number, despite its lengthy running time of 2:40. Will 100% of the Major Spoilers Legion be seeing the movie this weekend? via Variety
