Previously in X of Swords: The Contest of Swords has been stacked against the Champions of Krakoa. However, Gorgon was able to tie up the score before his death against the White Sword. Meanwhile, Cable has been able to contact Ms. Marvel and Cyclops through the multiverse and inform them that they are losing bad but was unable to tell them the full extent of the situation. Now the final match is here, Genesis verses Apocalypse and whoever wins takes the victory.

    A CHILD IN NEED

The issue primarily takes place within the Quiet Council. Jean Grey and Scott Summers inform the Council that they are going to go after Cable and the rest of the Champions. Though it seems that most of the Quiet Council cannot approve of this mission because they must think of the greater mutant nation. Cyclops resolves to take a team anyway without the permission of the council because he is a X-Man and must do what is right. Throughout this conversation, we see the fight between Apocalypse and Genesis. Apocalypse wins the initial fight but hesitates to deal a killing blow. However, Genesis dons the helm of Annihilation and regains her strength.

    WELL DESIGNED

I’m not sure where in the creative process they decided to have this battle amidst the Quiet Council conversation but it was a good choice. We have the conversation about the consequences of the fight while seeing the fight going on. It is like one of those war scenes where you see them fighting but also seeing the people they love at home. It reminds the reader what the heroes are fighting for and that translated really well to the paper. The event is coming up to its conclusion and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

BOTTOM LINE: EXCITED FOR THE FINISH LINE

I think I am at the point where I am ready for the conclusion. I’m most curious to see what Saturnyne’s role in all this is and if that will be clarified. Is she a hero or a villain? Or maybe somewhere in between? I wonder how she is going to fall in this theme of love and family that has been crucial to this event. This issue is a 4 out of 5 stars. Very well written and very excited for the result of this 22 chapter arc.
