Press Release Wizards of the Coast announced today that they will be releasing the first official mobile application for Magic – the Magic: The Gathering Toolbox! This new, free app will allow players to build decks, research strategies, and find events, and also serves as an advanced life counter for your Magic games. You can even search and filter all 10,000+ Magic cards, with new card sets automatically added! There is a lot of interest in the Magic: The Gathering comic book scheduled to ship next week from IDW Publishing, as each issue contains an exclusive playable card. For those who were ready to line up at their comic book store next week, you’re going to have to wait a little longer. According to ICv2, the first issue apparently had some printing challenges, and now the issue is scheduled to ship on February 1, 2012. All other issues will continue to arrive monthly and on schedule (we hope). via ICv2
IDW Publishing and Wizards of the Coast have been working together for a while with the Dungeons and Dragons comic, and now with the Magic: The Gathering comic series. One of the hooks with the Magic: The Gathering comic is an exclusive card for use with the upcoming Magic: The Gathering – Dark Ascension set. The companies sent Major Spoilers the first look at the exclusive playable card.

Jon Finkel may have the last word when it comes to who is worth your time or not. Wizards of the Coast has announced that Jon Finkel will compete in a three day tournament and donate all his winnings to charity. Recently, Finkel announced via twitter that he plans to donate his winnings from this weekend’s tournament in Philadelphia to the newly-formed Gamers Helping Gamers, a charity that provides college scholarship and mentoring programs to members of the Magic: The Gathering community. The announcement of Modern as a format for the Community Cup sent quite the buzz through the Magic community. Presumably due to the success of the format in the Cup and the vastly positive buzz formed around it not only allowed them to turn it into a legal format, but update the next Pro Tour(PT Philadelphia) from Extended to Modern. For the most part this change has been happily accepted by the general masses, however, there are a few squabbles that have come up.
