Variety is reporting that John Stevenson (Kung-Fu Panda) will take on the directorial duties for the new He-Man movie produced by Joel Silver.  No word on a release date as the script gets polished, but it is clear Mattel wants this to be a successful motion picture to boost toy sales. via Variety

Last month, Disney announced it wouldn’t continue the Narnia series, leaving audiences wondering what would happen the magical land.  20th Century Fox has negotiated and will partner with Walden film to bring Voyage of the Dawn Treader to theaters during the 2010 holiday season. From what the Hollywood Reporter is stating, the director and producer of the first films are returning, and at least one of the actors will reprise his role as well. via THR

Why haven’t we seen any more Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movies in a while?  The rights reverted back to game creator Eidos a few years ago and apparently there has been a bidding war over which studio would pick up the franchise.  The Hollywood Reporter is noting Time Warner invested more money into the game company, which included the film rights.  Now the studio is trying to put something together for the next generation of movie goers. H’wood is once again throwing originality out the window and diving into your childhood to bring the A-Team television show to the big screen.  Ridley Scott, Jules Daly, and Stephen J. Cannell are all on board to produce the film with Joe Carnahan set to direct. Carnahan and the Scott brothers say they will use the original premise of the series as the template for an action film. Death Ray Films has teamed up with Maya Entertainment to bring Dark Horse Comics’ El Zombo Fantasma to the big screen. The comic, published in 2005, tells the story of a murdered, temperamental Mexican wrestler who returns from his fiery damnation to play guardian angel to a troubled Los Angeles teenager. Zombo learns the teen is not what she seems and that their fates are intertwined. The character was created by David Wilkins and Munroe when they worked at a video game company. Steven Spielberg is quickly moving on the mocapped CGI Tintin movie by announcing Billy Elliot star Jamie Bell will play Tintin, with 007 Daniel Craig as Red Rackham. Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have already boarded the project. Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook will round out the cast. The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn is scheduled to be in theaters in 2011, supposedly the same year we might see the next Batman flick. via Variety

This past weekend, Andrew Stanton, the man behind many of the best animated movies of the last 15 years, said the upcoming John Carter of Mars movie will not be a Pixar movie, but will be firmly under the Disney banner.  Stanton also dismissed rumors that the film would be entirely 3D in nature.
