I was looking around for other characters from the Wizard of Oz, when I found this lovely version of the cowardly lion done by Steve Hamilton. via Deviant Art

As nice as it is to see the four most known characters from the Wizard of Oz, there are scores of others that some find just as fascinating. Take Sarah Petrulis’ Ozma of Oz. I like that it evokes the style from the 1920’s. I actually don’t like Wizard of Oz that much at all, but I do like Ozma. This is for a friend (who actually looks quite a bit like the character) for some meme that’s been going around on Live Journal. via Deviant Art
If the theme is Wizard of Oz, I’d be remiss if I didn’t have a day featuring the most awesome work of Skottie Young for the current Marvel series. My first cover to the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I wasn’t thrilled with this when I first finished it. In fact, we almost just used this a promo piece instead of a cover. Luckily my editors liked it enough to talk me off the artistic ledge and just use it as the cover. I’m glad we did, it set a nice tone for the covers to follow. It’s been cool to…
Project: Rooftop has announced the winners in its Batman 2.0: The Dynamic Do-Over. The purpose of the contest was to redesign the famous Batman costume in light of the new person taking over the mantle of the bat. Anjin Anhut was the Grand Prize Winner, who used a red and black color scheme that looks the most practical of all the entries. Anhut picked up The Batman Black & White Statue by Matt Wagner, a retailer exclusive DC Direct Batman action figure, Batman: The Black Glove HC signed by JH Williams III, and Detective Comics #844 signed by Dustin Nguyen.…
I sense a theme forming for the week. Today’s Art Appreciation Moment comes from Julian Totino Tedesco, all the way from Argentina. If Julian’s work looks familiar, then you may have picked up Boom! Studios’ The Remnant, the Stephen Baldwin reality altering, end of days tale. via Julian Totino Tedesco
Doing something different for today’s Art Appreciation Moment – instead of featuring sketches of comic book characters, I found this stunning take on a Wizard of Oz movie poster by Tom Whalen. did this as a trade for my buddy pat mcmullen…he did a sweet godzilla for me and i drew this for him…he gave it to his girlfriend for her b-day…awwwwwwwww, he so sweet! And so is that poster! via Tom Whalen
I think during this whole Art Appreciation Moment of the Day experiment we’ll be seeing a lot of Adam Hughes work. Not just because I think he’s an awesome artist, or that he draws some of the most attractive women around, but that he can take those two and come up with an interesting twist that makes you smile. A Batgirl convention sketch, from MegaCon, a few weeks ago. This is the second one I had to do for Ben Defeo, as I mistakenly gave the FIRST Batgirl to someone else (who also ordered a Batgirl). That’s why there’s a…
Today, we swing the art the other way to appease those who aren’t into hot babes in tight fitting outfits. Dave Hover cranks out this fantastic piece of Tarzan art that pays homage to Mike Henry.
I’ve enjoyed Chad’s work for several years (I own several of his sketches), and it is always good to see him on the line up at the Kansas City Planet ComiCon (happening this weekend!). Here’s just a tiny sample of Chad’s work, you can see more at his website, but beware, bare breasts abound. via Chad Spilker
Sure the movie may have already died at the box office, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate art based on the “best selling graphic novel of all time”. Take the jump for the full on image of Silk Spectre done by Olga Ulanova.
I’ve been a fan of Humberto Ramos’s work since I first discovered it in the pages of DC’s Impulse. From his blog page, comes his interpretation of Daredevil. For those that complain about his big eyes, big feet style, he does keep it to a minimum here.
A Major Spoilerite asked what I thought of Michael Turner’s art, so today’s Art Appreciation Moment features the Tomb Raider/Witchblade cover by Michael Turner and Tim Townsend. Love him or hate him, you gotta appreciate Turner’s work.
Because it can’t always be about hot girls and big boobs…sometimes it’s fun to see Batman and Superman kick each other’s asses.
It’s sad when really great artists pass away, as it means there will never be new work from that creator. In honor of the passing of Vampirella artist Jose “Pepe” Gonzalez, today we’re giving you a glimpse of the work he did with vampire from outer space.
