One of the first pulp heroes I was introduced to as a wee lad was Lamont Cranston, The Shadow. I found this awesome 60’s retro styling of the crime fighter by Trisha Toms that I just had to share. What Evil Lurks in the Hearts of Men?? The Shadow Knowwwws!!! HAHAHAHAHAA! My brother’s favorite dude leaping over rooftops avoiding gunfire. Run Shadow!! Then turn and KILL THEM ALL! This is the old pulp novel version. Of course he has the awesome color scheme and hero scarf. Man I like him so much! I like him too, Trish. Thanks for the…

This week we’re going to go with another theme for our Art Appreciation Moments of the Day. This week the theme is Pulp Heroes, and kicking us off is the sketch by Scott Godlewski featuring a great group shot of the heroes. via Scott Godlewski
Ever since seeing the new Amazing Spider-Man cartoon series, I’ve been interested in the art stylings of Sean “Cheeks” Galloway. Today we offer up his take on some DC characters. Something to hold you over, until I widdle out the winner from the 6 finalists. For this line-up of DC characters I wanted to keep the lines loose, as well as the coloring. Hope y’all digs! via Deviant Art
Today’s entry comes from Dave Johnson, the cover artist for the recently concluded 100 Bullets. Iron Fist! Just a con sketch I did for someone at the Orlando FX! convention this past weekend. The show was a lot of fun. via Deviant Art
I get a kick out of artists who take cartoon characters and manga-tize them into something quite unique. Today’s art appreciation moment features Bender and Fry on a night out on the town. Heh, check out the three finger discount… via Devianat Art

One of these days I’m going to show you how I find these images, because it is a pretty interesting look at the chaotic rambling of an Intardwebz nerd. Plus I never know where I’m going to end up, or what I’m going to find; like this funny bit from Christian Nauck. via Deviant Art
I’m a big fan of the propaganda poster. So today’s Art Appreciation Moment features a new take on the propaganda poster by artist Paul Sizer. The color, composition, and word usage ties this piece together, and had this been done in the 1940’s, it would probably hailed as one of the best examples of anti-Nazi propaganda. Now that being said, you really owe it to yourself to take the jump and read Sizer’s response to people who may have taken offense to such a well done image.
I didn’t really know who Kelsey Shannon was until I picked up Scribbles his first sketchbook from Antarctic Press this week. A little digging online, and I found out that he is behind some of my favorite DC covers in recent times – like this one from Batman Adventures. And while that is nice, you’ll want to take the jump to see his really cool Super Sketch.
I originally went looking for some Zorro art, and stumbled across Evan Shaner’s site. He does have some pretty keen looking Don Diego sketches to be sure, but what caught my eye (ouch) was his Mugshots project that he has been working on. If you are in Toronto this weekend (April 18-19) stop by his booth and pick me up one of these. via Evan Shaner
Steampunk, rocketpacks, and hot girls. Today’s art is from Mark Rehkopf and his original creation Becky Bolt. via Deviant Art
If the art style is familiar, that’s because Stanley “Artgerm” Lau is the cover artist for the upcoming Final Crisis Aftermath: Dance featuring the Super Young Team. Today’s piece was done for another project. Artwork done for Generals Order, a trading card game based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Da Qiao and Xiao Qiao were sisters. they were known as two of the great beauties of ancient China. Done in Painter and Photoshop. You better believe Stanley has been added to my daily diversions list. via Deviant Art

I love going through the Deviant Art website to see what I can see. And what I saw today was this Mister Miracle piece by Bob Strang. If you like that, take the jump to see his version of Big Barda.
