Here’s the full look at the fan made, Pini supported, $5,000 budgeted ElfQuest fan film that made its online premiere yesterday.
While this visually is very nice, and fan films are certainly a way to keep characters and properties alive, I kind of wish producers/actors Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes would have developed more of a story in this piece instead of trying to cram as many characters as they could into the extended trailer. But still a great job.
Now, if this fan film can get more people to check out the source material and more importantly BUY the source material, the money spent will be effective.

For anyone who will/is bitching about the lack of story- this trailer is for FANS of the written material that know it well. Trailer looks good and I’m thinking this is as close as anyone’s going to get to an actual movie. If this looks vaguely interesting, google the damn title and find the elfquest site. (I, for one, am wondering how the hell the actresses subtracted one of their fingers from each hand…)
Well… that looked pretty and had high quality. But, you know, it’s basically just a bunch of half-naked girls with pointy ears scampering about in the forest. That’s not really up my alley.
Nothing had a context. There were only like two shots where characters even interacted. And the acting was just empty…it looked like modeling shots.
You know, you’re talking about a huge fantasy world in Elfquest. I may be called a curmudgeon for saying this, but if you can’t do the basics of the story justice: some establishing shots, some actual scenes, some dialogue, people riding wolves or whatever, then just let it be and make whatever is possible to make with 5k. I think they’re reaching way too high.
