The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is the latest Middle-Earth-based video game about to be birthed into the world by Free Range Games. Return to Moria is a survival crafting game, so for those Minecraft fiends reading – this game is about to be for you! Happily, it features multiplayer co-op gameplay giving you the ability to add 8 additional players.
As with this series, the intersection of Lord of the Rings and the world of video games is sorely lacking in dwarvish representation. Moria (a.k.a. Khazad-dûm), has risen to the forefront in recent years across mass media and within the fandom. Their time is now. The industrious dwarves of Moria at the height of their power easily lend themselves to the mechanics of a survival crafting game. I really love this choice!
This isn’t Free Range Games first exploration of the above mentioned intersection. This is the same studio which brought us The Lord of the Rings: Gollum and EA’s Heroes of Middle-Earth. Return to Moria stars beloved Tolkien character Lord Gimli Lockbearer who you may also know as Gimli, son of Glóin, or simply “Gimli from The Fellowship of the Ring” on a quest to rebuild Moria and restore its former glory.
This may explain why John Rhys-Davies provides the voice for Gimli in Return to Moria.
PC Games, rejoice! You can play Return to Moria right this very second! For those gamers I joked about earlier who, like myself, have been glued to your PS5 living in the world of Spider-Man 2 you will sadly have to wait until December 5th to play. Even more sadly, if you are an Xbox gamer the wait for Return to Moria extends all the way into 2024.
