What to Watch Before The Rings of Power Season 2? – Let’s Get Nerdy!

Ashley Victoria RobinsonBy Ashley Victoria RobinsonFebruary 1, 20234 Mins Read

Amazon Studios The Rings of Power is here. We want all Spoilerites to have the best viewing experience possible and have the widest knowledge base about the Second Age of Middle-Earth. This is a weekly Let’s Get Nerdy article series highlighting a different piece of Tolkien I think you need to know about!

    Hello Spoilerites,

Here we find ourselves a month into a new year with no new season of The Rings of Power on the horizon. With many of the powers that be making it clear from both the House of the Dragon and Rings of Power camps making it clear we will not be getting more content until 2024. While I’ll keep the theories coming, casting announcements will be celebrated, and as information trickles out to us I’ll be doing my best here in Let’s Get Nerdy! to explore canon references, but I want to take a little break from format this week and highlight some things you can have on your radar to tide you over until next year!

Let’s start with the most obvious one: Wheel of Time! Many fantasy fans look at Amazon Studios’ Wheel of Time as their audition piece for The Rings of Power. While I tend to find this an oversimplification there are definitely shared tropes, trappings, and trials which bind both The Lord of the Rings and The Wheel of Time series together in both their book and on-screen incarnations. In fact, if you’ve missed out on the first season of Wheel of Time your first job is to head to Amazon Prime and get caught up.

An adventure this epic cannot be contained much longer. The Wheel Of Time premieres November 19th on @AmazonPrimeVideo About Prime Video: Want to watch it now? We’ve got it. This week’s newest movies, last night’s TV shows, classic favorites, and more are available to stream instantly, plus all your videos are stored in Your Video Library.

    Welcome back!

Now that you’ve watched Wheel of Time season one keep your calendars and your hearts open for even more from the franchise this year! While a concrete announcement has eluded us up to this point Amazon is purportedly eyeing a spring or summer release date this year. The Randlands’ story will certainly take an evolution between the first and the second series of the show and could herald some interesting predictions about how The Rings of Power will evolve between their first two seasons as well.

If you are a Wheel of Time television show fan and haven’t read the books there are also an even-larger-than-Tolkien library of content to consume. Get your read on!

If you want something strictly Tolkien-inspired and Rings of Power adjacent Amazon Prime has a behind-the-scenes documentary series about the epic undertaking of the first season of the show titled: The Making of the Rings of Power!

    No Description

The documentary debuted in November of last year and has become well-regarded on social media.

The Making of the Rings of Power follows directly in the footsteps of the numerous in-depth featurettes The Lord of the Rings film trilogy included across various dvd and bluray releases (theatrical and extended!), highlighting not only the cast, crew, and writers, but some of the tinier, more specific moments of craftsmanship that went into building a Middle-Earth here on our Earth.

A short list, just two offerings! But both available for your right this moment on Amazon Prime! I hope they will help tide you over as they are helping me.
