As an adult fan of comic books and professional wrestling, I have become pretty adept at ignoring anyone else’s opinions about what I love. But when I was younger, it was a different story, and I clearly remember a friend being embarrassed to talk about the Saturday morning Shazam show we both liked. For my part, it was occasionally difficult to explain to my fellow ’80s kids why I liked The Monkees instead of Tears for Fears or A Flock of Seagulls or Echo and the Bunnymen, much less why Ditty Diego War Chant ever appealed to me. Nowadays, the only thing I’m ashamed to admit I watch is Family Guy, but there’s a different reason for that, leading to today’s opinionated query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) was admittedly a little bit nervous about explaining to my high school girlfriend my love of Super Friends, asking: Which song that you love was (at some point in your life) the song you wouldn’t admit you like?

Ehh. It’s all about context i guess. I suppose I could say Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice, or MC Hammer, or C&C Music Factory, or New Kids on the Block, but it was because i was in 4th grade and basically took what i was given on tv or the radio. I certainly don’t listen to that stuff anymore, but at one point i guess i liked it.
I don’t think i have many current guilty pleasures now. I’ll freely admit to listening to Carly Rae Jepsen or Sarah McLachlin or Burt Bacharach. Whatever
Probably several Michael Jackson songs.
I know no such shame. I’m the kid who didn’t have pop albums, but listened the heck out of my Star Wars soundtracks on vinyl, meaning I’d rock out to such gems as “Lapti Nek” and “Ewok Celebration.” Though my tastes have moved on, that’s the time that I should probably be most embarrassed about, but a nerd’s gotta nerd so no regrets!
