Not had an opportunity to try it myself, but I heard good things about Terraforming Mars from my game store working buddy.
I highly suggest “Rhino Hero” (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/91514/rhino-hero), a fun stacking/tower building game that is as much fun for adults as it is for kids. The goal is to build up an apartment building layer by layer, while moving the Rhino Hero up the tower. You can build a tower that is about 3 feet tall, if you don’t knock it over first.
I also suggest “Sushi Go!” & “Sushi Go Party!” (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/192291/sushi-go-party). This a quick hand passing card set building game that can be played by 2 – 8 players, with each round lasting just a few minutes. Since “Sushi Go Party!” contains all the same cards as “Sushi Go!” plus many more, I suggest spending the few extra dollars to grab it.
Too hard of a question. I don’t actually give/receive all that many games because it’s so tough and mistakes can waste a lot of money.
Rory’s story cubes are old news but can make good gifts. Fun for all ages and even the littlest kids like the pictures. Kids games in general get given a lot more in my experience but I will try to leave those out of this.
I think expansions can good gifts for people who have some games they really like, especially something modular like T.I.M.E stories. Actually, T.I.M.E stories itself would be at the top of my list, a lot of people seem to balk at paying for a module you aren’t going to replay but after giving it a chance have a lot of fun.
Anything 5e but this is boardgames, so I guess the Tomb of Annihilation game is as close as I can come.
Gaah, I give up.
