The other day, I bumped into a show where Kiefer Sutherland plays the President Of The United States, and marveled that the bad boy of my youth had become the elder statesman figure of the present day. Not only was he 40% of the brilliance that was ‘Lost Boys’, Kiefer made ‘Flatliners’ almost watchable and even gave viewers of ‘Bright Lights, Big City’ something to goggle at other than a painfully miscast Michael J. Fox. Of course, the question of old Kiefer or young Kiefer has come up before at my house: Is Jack Bauer cooler than Doc Scurlock? Is there any villain more vile than Ace Merrill? It’s a toughie, but eminently suitable for today’s platinum-blonde query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) is probably biased as a child of the 1990s, but still thinks David is partially responsible for the proliferation of nerds in longcoats and leather gloves, asking: Old Kiefer or Young Kiefer?

I actually wear my long coat because of “Highlander”, not “The Lost Boys”, so I think there might be a little blame to share on that front.
I really can’t decide. I think he’s been involved in some great stuff (and also made some possibly terrible stuff tolerable) through the course of his career, so I don’t really favor his works from any particular age range. Plus, the characters he plays as a youth are usually quite different from the roles he brings to life later, so it isn’t easy to compare them when he did a pretty good job with almost all of them.
