Here is some exciting new for Jack Kirby fans – you can get your hands on his Fantastic Four work, and see what it looked like before it was colored and printed in an all new tome from IDW Publishing.
The Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four Artist’s Edition is the followup to the Thor Artist’s Edition that IDW published recently. In the Fantastic Four collection, fans will get to see multiple complete stories all captured from the original art. This Artist’s Edition contains issues #82 and #83, and the 46-page tale from Fantastic Four Annual #6, and apparently a lot more, according to IDW.
“These issues of Fantastic Four represent Jack Kirby operating at the top of his game, which is about as high a compliment as I can pay a comic book,” said noted comics historian and Kirby biographer Mark Evanier. “As a reader, I felt like the fifth member of the Fantastic Four—and that was in the small format with the bad printing. When I get the IDW book, I will probably want to move into it and live there.”
If you haven’t seen one of these in person, you are missing out on a great piece of comic history. Granted, this isn’t like owning the original art, but it is the next best thing. I have a Simonson Thor Artist’s Edition and a Dave Stevens Rocketeer Artist’s Edition, and they are both a sight to behold in their oversized forms.
Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four Artist’s Edition is expected to arrive in 2017.
