Today marks the 52nd Anniversary of ‘Doctor Who,’ a show near and dear to many a nerd heart, and one that has weathered the ensuring half-century amazingly well. Of course, with the modern focus on pop culture as important social touchstones (rather than the “nerd stuff” it mighty have been perceived as in previous decades), we are on the edge of an onslaught of Golden Anniversaries: Star Trek, the second wave of the Marvel Universe (Silver Surfer, The Black Panther, Sharon Carter), a number of Silver Age DC heroes (Ted Kord, Ferro Lad, Poison Ivy), with television jubilees for Batman ’66, The Monkees and even Star Trek. (It’s a big enough deal that I had to mention it twice.) Indeed, doing the math on the last half of the 1960s means that the anniversary-minded will be filling social media for at least the next half a decade, leading to today’s semicentennial query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) thinks that the 50th Anniversary of ‘The Monkees’ should be a hoot, but really hopes that the remaining cast members make it to the Trek 50th Anniversary, asking: What upcoming pop-culture anniversary will mean the most to you?

Comicbook debuts aside (‘One of Us is a Traitor!’), ’66 was a banner year for the TV shows I’ve cherished over the years (strange, given I wasn’t born until ’75! Yaye, syndication!), so that 2016 will see me acknowledging, (even if no one else does) the 50th anniversaries of Star Trek: The Original Series, Mission: Impossible(The Original Series), Batman ’66, Green Hornet and Dark Shadows.
Not to mention the 50th anniversaries of seasonal favourites such as ‘It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’ and ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’.
And I’ll probably get the guys over for a ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’ viewing at some point during the year as well!
Although the anniversary itself was this year, I am looking forward to the next series in the Super Sentai franchise which is rumored to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the franchise. The current series didn’t exactly pass the anniversary by, though, as they had several past characters from the franchise show up to help train the current team. Most were ninja or magic themed as well as a few non-Sentai characters that fit those themes, but there was a brief appearance by the very first Sentai Red.
The anniversary years usually produce some of my favorite installments of the franchise, including the films “Gaoranger vs Super Sentai” and “Boukenger vs Super Sentai”, as well as pretty much everything that came out of “Gokaiger” ranging from the series itself to the various crossover movies with non-Super Sentai franchises like Kamen Rider and Metal Heroes.
I can hardly remember my family’s birthdays, including mine. Its a bit too much to ask for me to remember any upcoming anniversaries until they start to advertise them.
