Lots of rumors have been swirling around who would play young Jim Gordon in Fox’s Gotham series. Warner Bros. and Fox have found him in Ben McKenzie.
According to Variety, Gotham will feature the rise of Jim Gordon through the ranks from detective all the way up to Commissioner. In the series, we’ll see Gordon face off against early renditions of Batman’s greatest foes. We’ll also see a young Bruce Wayne running around, and from what I understand the series is moving closer to what Kevin Smith and Paul Dini pitched on Smith’s Fatman on Batman podcast.
Those familiar with Fox’s programming will remember Ben McKenzie from The O.C., and Batman fans will recognize McKenzie’s voice from Batman: Year One, where he played the title character.

I like Dini and I like Smith, but I thought their pitch was terrible.. the whole “younger versions of everyone, meeting before they met” is something I always find extremely annoying in the comics. Not to say detrimental to a characters history. There is a much better way to do Batman before he was Batman..
Anyhow, we don’t know what this show will actually be yet, so this casting is some exciting news. McKenzie was pretty fucking great in Southland.
Hey kids, you like Batman? Here’s a show with a loose tangential to Batman! Pay attention, one or two of the characters have the same NAME as a Batman character! If you look really close Bruce Wayne himself might actually show up, as a little kid! (Cause you all liked that with Boba Fett, right?)
What? Oh, no, there won’t be any Batman. Or any superheroes at all. Mostly it’s just Law and Order but one guy is named Gordon. But you suckers will eat up anything to do with comics, regardless of how flimsy the connection is!
Gotham Central featured a plethora of Batman villains, with very little if any appearance by Batman. It was a well respected series that should be what this show is based on.
