Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is front and center from jump in this trailer! Marvel Netflix fans immediately began rejoicing not only at the sight of Wilson Fisk, but at the surprising and unexpected appearance of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the Netflix red suit – the first time a Disney+ series has openly acknowledged in their canon the canon established by Netflix in 2015.
The merging of these two canons is awesome and unprecedented, but what I, personally, like best about it is how amazing the character Echo comes across!
Echo debuts on January 9th, 2024 on Disney+.
Steven Yeun Leaves Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts
On New Comic Book Day this week Marvel Studios fans were dealt a bit of bad news. Actor Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead, Nope, Invincible), was previously slated to appear in the upcoming MCU movie, Thunderbolts has officially left the project, as reported by Deadline on Wednesday.
Steven Yeun is falling out of Marvel Studios‘ Thunderbolts pic due to scheduling issues after production was pushed on the film because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Deadline has confirmed.
Deadline’s reporting is vague and to the point, not citing any other specifics.
The production of Thunderbolts paused in May of last year when the WGA Strike went into effect. Thunderbolts is by no mean the only Hollywood project to be affected by both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA Strikes which lasted most of the year. The pause necessitated moving back everything from production to the movie’s final release date.
Variety released a piece with statements from Yeun the same day which included the following statements:
“I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it. But Jake [Schreier], I know, is going to do an incredible job.”
Adding,
“I wanna do a Marvel movie.”
Personally, I think it would be smart for Marvel Studios to keep Yeun in their back pocket. He’s a bona fide genre star with an Academy Award nomination who could easily slip into a number of roles from Marvel Comics. Or DC Comics … if DC Films is actively casting. I’d love to read down in the comments if there are any roles you would like to see Yeun step into, Spoilerites!
Watson TV Series Casts its Lead
Also on Wednesday Sherlockians and Holmesians of the world got the first update about CBS’s upcoming Watson series since it was announced last year – actor Morris Chestnut (Rosewood, The Resident), will be stepping into the role of – as the fandom knows him – Doctor John “Three Continents” Watson!
Per Deadline:
Watson is described as a medical show with a strong investigative spine, featuring a modern version of one of history’s greatest detectives as he turns his attention from solving crimes to solving medical mysteries. The series lives in a universe where Holmes has been killed off, something Conan Doyle reportedly intended to do with The Final Problem.
In Watson, a year after the death of his friend and partner Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty, Dr. John Watson (Chestnut) resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders. Watson’s old life isn’t done with him, though—Moriarty and Watson are set to write their own chapter of a story that has fascinated audiences for more than a century.
President of CBS Entertainment, Amy Reisenbach adds:
“We are thrilled to feature such a beloved character from the world of Sherlock Holmes at the center of this series and have it brought to life by Morris Chestnut in a fresh and unexpected take on the immortal doctor. Craig Sweeny’s bold new vision for the complex Dr. Watson deftly interweaves rich character storytelling with edge-of-your-seat medical mysteries.”
Watson currently has a pilot order from CBS.
